What does your own mind tell you about the best way to defend yourself and your property?

About what method is best used to obtain those items you cannot find or manufacture yourself?

Phred

My mind tells me that if it weren't for people with your mindset, they wouldn't be issues I'd ever be likely to have to deal with.

There are people with that mindset, and there will forever be, so your cut little idea is flawed horrendously.

even though you like to describe our economy as "mixed," it is most certainly 1000 parts capitalism for any other economic policy.

Bullshit. The U.S. federal government controls interest rates, imposes a minimum wage, has extensive environmental laws, has extensive worker safety laws, and engages in extensive income redistribution (food stamps, HUD, Medicare, Medicaid, student grants, etc...). The ratio of capitalism to socialism in America is a hell of a lot less than 1000 to 1.

Would you mind citing a few examples of a capitalist policy in which there are no division of classes, or where there has been a stable capitalist society that did not have an unbalanced spread of wealth?

Here we get to the real heart of the matter. Leftist collectivists hate inequality so much that they do not pay attention to the fact that the overall wealth of capitalist nations is incredibly highr than communist or socialist nations. The poor in America have TV's, cars, ample food, and housing even though they are at the "bottom of the socio-economic ladder".

Nope, only with the existence of human beings will it continue.

Your claim is based on pure speculation while mine is based of 10,000 years of observation.

You seem to be one of those sentimental anarchists who hover on the Left and who entertain fanciful ideas of how the world "could be" if only people would subscribe to your ideas. I used to inhabit the same area of the ideological spectrum as you.

I started supporting myself, reading extensively, thinking more for myself, and examining the behavior of people. Once you start doing these things your opinions will change. Trust me.

Generalise humanity as much as you want to.

But I'm sorry to have to break it to you, but one can only ever truely speak for oneself.

Examining history and seeing recurring themes over and over again is not generalization.

So, what literature have you read on anarchism? Any or are you just one of those cool punk kids with the A on their jacket without realizing how silly anarchism is in reality?

Emma Goldman - Anarchism and other essays.

She really inspired me, she was a highly intelligent, extraordianry woman.

Not that it makes a shit of difference how I formed my opinions.

right, and being somewhat educated with these types of things, you also realize that every single thing you just mentioned was only granted after countless massacres, riots, strikes and protests. These things were all implemented to keep the peace, but none of those have anything to do with the foundations of this country's economic policy... they are all little modifications here and there to keep the system running in its current state.

heh, so now i am leftist? how cute. I never went out of my way to say capitalism is evil, or that socialism is the answer, but you seem to have your mind made up. Personally, i believe that whatever works for a certain community is great for that community.

Quote:

that is a cop-out. besides, i never focused on where the poor were. We ran out of working people to exploit in this country a long time ago. Mention our effects on the third world and other developing nations, and your argument falls apart. I fail to see how comparing the difference between lower classes provides insight one way or the other.

Lower class means invisible. Whether or not you have a TV or a car does not make much difference. TVs can be bought at the pawn shop for $20, and cars can be bought for as little as $50.

Quote:
capitalism refers to an economic system in which all or most of the means of production are privately owned and operated.

Incorrect. Capitalism refers to a political system in which the government is forbidden any power over the economy.

Quote:
The Louisiana Purchase

Doesn't the word "purchase" tip you off? Note that Alaska was also purchased. As for the rest of the list, some were taken by conquest, others by voluntary association and some of them are just downright bullshit -- i.e. Panama and Cuba. Those taken by conquest are not part of the American empire, they are part of America. Big difference.

Quote:
Imperialism is a policy of extending control or authority over foreign entities as a means of acquisition and/or maintenance of empires

Exactly. None of which is a requirement of Capitalism.

Quote:
for the american empire, this is a perfect example. we are struggling to control foreign entities for profit...

Capitalism doesn't need to do this. However, just for shits and giggles, which foreign entity is America currently struggling to control?

Quote:
Would you mind citing a few examples of a capitalist policy in which there are no division of classes, or where there has been a stable capitalist society that did not have an unbalanced spread of wealth?

Your contention is that Capitalism requires unequal distribution of wealth in order to function. That is incorrect. Please demonstrate how you arrived at this conclusion.

It is true that Capitalism does nothing to prevent some people from accumulating more wealth than others. This doesn't mean Capitalism requires this unequal accumulation in order to function.

History from those government indoctrinated documents?

Forget about history, focus on the present...we have the ability to change, change being the operative word. It ain't so scary you know.

No thanks, I like my property right where it is.

If you would like to convert people, you have to have an argument. What is yours?
