Turntables and Vinyls

How many of you listen to records or have a collection? I've been listening to stuff all morning and got to wondering how many Shroomerites have turn tables. It's pretty common on another forum I frequent, but that forum is music based so it's not surprising.

I was sitting in a bar the other night and two old guys were doing the most stereotypical "remember this remember that" type shit when vinyls came up. I wanted to tell them I have a modest collection and records are seeing a resurgence, but I didn't really care enough to involve myself.

So yeah, who here collects records and shit? What's your setup if you do?

I've thought about trying vinyl, but I'd really need to hear the difference in a nice, two-channel setup with a good tube amplifier.

I've been experimenting with higher-end home theater and stereo over the last two years or so, and I think a lot of people are full of shit when they rant about the differences they can (and can't) hear.

I bought a record player over in Germany back in the day and I've been trying to get it to work lately.

Everything on it its beautiful,but I need a tip that no one carries. :kingcrankey:

I was blowing twenty bucks a week at the used record store for a while there, but it's been a while. Vinyl is just so fun, makes you feel connected to the music. But tbh, and it's probably because of my shitty setup, I don't think vinyl sounds that great. Pure digital signal sounds way bigger and cleaner. :shrug:

Vinyl is still pretty fucking great quality-wise. not only that, but If I feel like owning music, vinyl seems like the best option.

I think physical media will become completely phased out in 15-20 years however, and the only people with vinyl will be collectors.

My Dad owned a used record store when I was young. I love vinyl, the way it sounds, the jackets, awesome.

The old man's still got about 40 crates, too.

I don't think it sounds better (nor do I think it sounds worse), though I also only have a run of the mill player. I enjoy it more for the collecting aspect. I can get anything I need or want online for free, but I like to buy stuff that I really like and have it around. My dad has tons (probably a few thousand) so to me having records was never really a thing of the past or some lost medium when I was growing up either. It was just another way to consume music along with other formats.

Cartridge or stylus? I'm sure you can find it online.

Stylus its like a rare size though. This damn thing is like 25-30 years old, I can't remember.

Ive been collecting records since I was a little kid:thumbup: My Aunt showed me how to properly use a record player when I was about 3! Being the cool, young Aunt, she had a nice collection of records too. I didnt personally start collecting them until I was around 11-12... The Beatles white album was one of my first records. I need to get a better record player though, the one I got currently is crap! I had an oldschool technic turntable but like Goldphunter, I couldnt find the right stylus for it.

Just last week I found 3 Metallica albums on LP.... Kill em all, Ride the Lightening and Master of Puppets:thumbup:

I've been collecting for 4 or 5 years now. Got a decent sized collection of ~75 records. Hip hop, jazz, rock, blues, etc. I like vinyl unlike CDs for their size, the sleeves are awesome and some albums are filled with goodies. The one Dark Side of the Moon I have was an original my Dad owned, the thing has stickers posters all sorts of shit inside of it. This one Who record I have (live at Leeds) has a reciept for smoke bombs, a picture of the band, handwritten lyrics. Fucking awesome. I feel like you get more with vinyl than any other. I don't know.. I like watching it spin, I like the smell of vinyl. It feels good, it can almost be relaxing just watching a record spin if you're in the right mood

I have two Tecnics speakers I got at Goodwill for 10 dollars each, perfect condition :rockon:

Yeh mate vinyl is an awesome thing. My records are mostly drum n bass from about '95-98 and hip hop from '87-93.
Honestly, nothing beats the sound of vinyl imo. That richness simply cannot be achieved with digital sound sources. Granted a wav/flac file isn't going to contain pops/crackle or any other defects in the sound. It doesn't have that same depth or richness in the very low and very high frequencies. Deck wise i've got an old Pioneer PL-512 and a pair of Technics 1210 Mk2.

I've wanted to get into vinyl, but i dont know where to start?  What kind of record player should I get?  I dont really know much about it
