It blew my mind - the artwork, the liner notes, the tactile experience, the ritual of flipping the record...but more than that, I couldn't believe it, what they'd been saying all these years was true - IT SOUNDED BETTER!

Well, I ran out and bought a turntable. And I developed a terrible new addiction...I can't stop buying vinyl.  In the last three months I've amassed a bit of a collection. I pillaged my mom's old records which she never listened to, salvaging about 30 golden nuggets from that, and have bought about fifty others on my own, getting my fingers dusty dry and cracked while rummaging through bargain bins. When i went out to San Francisco, I lost three and a half hours of my life and about $150 at Amoeba Music.

At home, I have my mom's old Bose record player from the 80's, and it pumps into an old wood-paneled tube Technics receiver also from the early 80's, all that luscious sound funneled out through PolkAudio speakers from back in the day as well. It all sounds so *WARM*!  I have an iPod hookup to the AUX on my receiver but I rarely use it...instead of jumping around my thousands and thousands of digital files of music, I am just getting to know certain albums intimately well.

I love being able to see the needle's journey across the record...I love learning that albums I held sacred as beginning-to-end pieces actually have natural breaks at the halfway point...I love running my fingers over the packaging and putting it on display like artwork.  I love vinyl!

RAM is one of my very first McCartney vinyls, fucking AMAZING!  As you can tell I was spinning it
this morning as well
