I don't mind having a cd deck. I don't think I'd ever go further then two/three turntables and an extra cd. (just personal preference)

My set up now is

Pioneer Sg9500 Equalizer (old, free, but totally awesome once I cleaned it up)
Pioneer turntable, from the 80's very awesome, free as well stole it from my parents.
Technics SA0Ax540, not bad, got it for free from someone who didn't pick it up. That is the next piece to be replaced.
Polk floor Speakers, very sweet. Only complaint is that I need a sub. Picked up for $20
And a Toshiba 5 Disc DVD/CD player, don't really use

And my computer connected into the system.

I upgrade when I see a deal. I really want a tube amp, so I think I may order a kit, and DIY as most market solutions are pretty pricey, but if you have the skills to put one together you can get great sound a fraction of the price.

I do need to get a new stylus though, as mines getting on its last leg.

What is the average lifespan I can expect from a stylus and how do I tell that it actually needs replacing?

Sorry if I sound like a newb, but I am.

No reason to apologize.

It depends on the use. Some people are religious with it.

You begin to notice the sound isn't as clear as it wears down, others have a time table.

I generally go through one about 6 months or so.

This one is about 8 months old, and doesn't sound as clean, I guess is how you can describe it.

It does make a big difference!

good decision. vinyl is clearly the better format.

all we need is vinyl and mp3s. to hell with cds.

Except vinyl takes up way more space and is much harder to put onto my computer.

And FLAC is far superior to any mp3 bitrate. I'm expecting that will be the next advancement in music. A shift towards more loseless files.

If I did have somewhere to keep vinyls and didn't plan on moving every 1-2 years then I'd probably start a small collection at least to make my cock bigger.

I'll give you FLAC is better, but it isn't as portable to as many devices.

When comparing a 320 to FLAC, depending on the original master, there are very little differences, and even those are simply subtle.

And Importing vinyl isn't that difficult, a bit time consuming, but worthwhile especially if the artist only releases it on vinyl.

I started to collect it for a while, but then I decided that I wanted to reduce the amount of possessions that I have.

That's what I mean by the next advancement.

Storage space is getting larger and more devices will start allowing FLAC. Especially if Apple stops being shit heads and lets iTunes play FLAC.

I understand the differences between V0 or 320 and FLAC aren't that great but the advantage of FLAC is archiving. Keep all your shit in FLAC and you can have any bitrate you want for whatever reason. I wish I had the space to do that though.

I'm on the same page as you man! I agree. I just fear having to redo my collection at this point, so I will stay in the dark ages of MP3's for the time being.
