Can't beat them. Can be a bit disappointing if you get a poorly mastered piece or a wafer thin record, but having the next most tangible form that isn't the band or the artist makes me smile.

Modern bits need more exciting artwork and interesting takes on gatefolds imo.

I've been collecting for a very long time. Have a Soundesign stereo and about 300 or so albums in my collection. My crown jewel is my grey pressing of "Still Day Beneath the Sun" by Opeth. Limited to 150 copies.

Totally.

I highly recommend Squarepusher's latest "Just a Souvenir" to anybody that listens to vinyl. Electronic music on vinyl about blew my mind the first time I heard it.

Then you've got a more than listenable collection. Squarepusher and Aphex Twin are two amazing artists to hear on vinyl (as is Venetian Snares).

I'm really impressed by the quality of Planet Mu's records.  The record is thick and the materials are quality too...

How do you guys store them?  Right now I just have them sitting up right on my audio tower but am trying to brainstorm some DIY storage options.  Preferably shelves...

I keep the bulk of them stored in crates, actually. They're leaned against each other on their sides. I have another smaller stack on a shelf under my record player though.

Milk crates are a good way to go.

Or the smaller one at half the size. Bit annoying having to browse sideways, but does the job as a piece of furniture.

I've been collecting records for years, but most of my shit is pretty battered because I dj.

There's nothing like finding just the right track.  Whether it's something new or old, it's always nice to find shit that you know is gonna slay a dancefloor.  Most of my electro collection is on vinyl, and I have some incredibly rare tunes.

Still, I love mp3.  When you only want a single song from a whole album, it sucks having to buy a 3x lp for like 25 bucks.  Nice to only pay 2, and get only what you want.

I should mention that as far as new material goes, I do largely prefer a 320 over a vinyl.  Most new music isn't really engineered or produced with the vinyl medium in mind, and I find it better to have an mp3.  Sound quality will usually be better.

With stuff produced before the late 80's, I usually prefer vinyl.

True Burke, I overlooked that fact.

For me that means investing in a cd deck, but I suppose it would be useful one day.

(still cant help feeling a tad empty. I'm a fuss)

I prefer vinyl, but don't have as much as I'd like.

My MP3's are exclusively 320 unless I can't get it in that format. Other times I will recode FLAC or OOG, only due to the compatiablity and ease of MP3's.

I'm super anal with my music collection. I have about 80 gigs organized, meaning correct tags, in folders.

And about 40 gigs that needs to be retagged, or is just new music to check out.

Its slow going, as soon as I move one album over, I seem to find something else to download.

Maybe try something like Serato or Traktor Scratch if you're not willing to switch to cdj.

I still kinda hate cdj, but with the discs being as cheap as they are, you can just burn like 4 cd's of tunes that you're going to play out that night, and then just throw them out.

Just remembered, I have two vinyls coming in next week.

Can't WAIT! Some new shit from Cex.

I do need to get a new stylus though, as mines getting on its last leg.
