Recommend a Turntable?

Well I have what you might call a budget audiophile setup, very limited due to money.

Sony STRDH100 2CH Receiver
Klipsch Synergy B3s
Monster Z1 cable
Cowon iAudio7

Anyhow I play my music on the system with the iAudio7 (my music collection is completely FLAC) and it sounds superb but I still prefer the sound of vinyl over digital.  So I'm curious of what a good turntable might be while staying within a $400 budget.  Also being that my receiver does not have phono inputs, I'm pretty sure I also need a preamp, so I would like recommendations on this as well.

Lastly I would like to upgrade my receiver someday to an amplifier (I would prefer the old tube style) and am wondering what there is for budget amps nowadays.

Searches on forums and the net have really led me nowhere, way to much conflicting opinion between audiophiles.

i'm confused.  are you going to plug the iAudio into the turntable...?

edit: oh okay i understand now.  confusing that you would mention FLAC and iAudio when you're talking about vinyl.

I don't know, with most audio stuff you get what you pay for.  if stuff is comparably priced it probably sounds about the same. 

if you haven't already, look up needle recommendations, the wiring quality and stability of reasonably priced turntables should be about the same.

second edit: speakers are usually the most important part of any sound system.  i would skimp on the record player and upgrade the speakers.  if you like your speaker's color, i think needle then amp would be more important than the table.  i dunno.

No, he's using the iAudio for digital music and wants a turntable for analogue.  It'll plug into the receiver.  I'm interested to see what people suggest.  I got a pair of Energy RC-50s last year and am in the market for a good receiver and turntable.

for just a cheap Sony that receiver is a great 2CH for the money but I would like just an analogue amp someday if I get a nice turntable.  Then I'll need a preamp for the iAudio :foreheadslap:

It's an expensive hobby, but totally worth it IMO.  Once you throw down that initial investment, you're good for life as far as I'm concerned.  Quality equipment only gets better with age.  You might want to look around on AVSForum.com.  There are tons of audiophiles on there.
