Lobster Mini-Season in FL starts at 12am

The 2 day lobster mini season here in FL starts at 12am tonight!

Anyone else going out to the reefs to catch some delicious free food?

If it's your first time going, make sure to follow the limits of how many you can catch per person/per day in your county. You WILL be arrested by FWC if you go over the limit. So be careful..and get that clarified butter ready. :homerdrool:

sounds like an awesome time! so is the mini-season something that usually happens annually or something?

i have to get down there and make that a priority adventure. im only like 8 hours from ya.

I'm good on the scorpions, but I'm definitely shipping some of them deep frozen to some people from the shroomery (maybe you :laugh:). The limit here is 12 per day. So 24 minus what I eat fresh would would be a waste to keep in my freezer.

How do you catch them?

My relatives in Maine have scuba dived for lobster but its wicked illegal.  They got an 18 pound one once!

Yea, it's an annual event in late July. Mini-season is only 2 days so I'd suggest coming down here during the full season (August - March). Although they aren't as plentiful, it's not so crowded with people in the water.

Here's pretty much all the information you need to get catch them:

It's pretty easy tho. You just dive down into the crevices in the reef, you'll see their antennae pointing out. When you get down there you put a net in front of the crevice and poke the lobster with something called a tickle stick until it comes swimming out into your net.

The ones that are 2-3 pounds are the best tasting ones IMO. The bigger they get, the less flavor they have.
