Be careful on craigslist with money to burn (do you know dirtbikes?)

im a dumbass and was sitting around at 8pm on a saturday thinking, you know what i need? i need a mother fuckin dirt bike

so the craigslist search began....and then ended about 2 mins in stopping on a 1975 suzuki RM250



here she is, runs and drives....dude listed it for 395, i got it for 300

he said she'll need new tires after a few weekends of hardcore riding but :shrug:

anyways i dont know shit about dirt bikes, i dont even have a place to store it, and it was a fucking retarded purchase

so did i get absolutely dicked over on this deal? i mean she does run and drive

As long as it's in good condition I guess the price isn't TOO unreasonable but holy shit a 1975??? I would NEVER buy anything older than 2000's

yeah, a 1975 :lol: its a 2 stroke. but the other few i saw were all tiny 100s and shit from the early 90s, and they were like a few hundred more

so i feel like in comparison i didnt get too dicked

but then again i dont know shit bout dirtbikes

its not a bad deal. I used to race to dirtbikes for years and lemme tell ya nothing beats a two stroke engine. so much top end power. its a 250 too so its got some pizzaz, although it is a 75' and god knows what kind of condition the piston head, clutch, cam shaft etc are in.

also, those ancient double shocks are pretty unforgivning. so lift your ass on the bumpy stuff. and also buy proper gear, Ive seen too many people burn their legs on the exhaust or mangle ankles in crashes.

It's really not a lot of money to blow but, that thing is gonna need some mainetenance. 2-strokes are definitely superior but shits always going wrong with them, not exactly something you want if you know nothing about bikes.

luckily he said the shocks were replaced 4 years ago but not much riding has been done on it since

glad i didnt get too fucked....at least so far :lol:

yeah i wanted something with a little more speed you know so i went for a 250 :thumbup:

yeah i dont know shit about bikes but im fairly decent with car engines (i understand they are completely different) but mechanical shit is mechanical shit, still somewhat the same

and yeah ive pretty much already chalked this purchase up to a 300$ losss....but we'll see how much $ worth of fun i have with it in the meantime :awehigh:

luckily my roommate actually has ridden dirtbikes his whole life pretty much, he just is out of town for another like 10 days :lol: i probably shouldve waited for him to get back to test it out but meh

yeah if you know cars and your roomate knows dirtbikes you should have no problem learning :thumbup:
I mean it's not useless it still should be fun as hell thats for sure

I wouldn't say 3 bills is a bad deal, but I also wouldn't expect that thing to run for too long before shitting out.


I hate 2 strokes too, such a pain in the ass to maintain.... they have a power band, sweet................. Naw, power bands are pretty fun I'm just too used to the newer (late 2000s) 4 strokes. They don't even need a power band and most the racing 4 strokes being put out now blow the 2 strokes out of the water. I'm rambling about pointless shit now, so yeah... have fun with it man, ride it hard, it was only $300 :crazy2:

yeah, but even when it takes a shit it probably wont be too expensive to fix right? unless of course its a catastrophic failure

what should i know about 2stroke maintenance?

you gotta mix your gas and oil, but you probably already know that... if you don't mix it right, it will cause some serious problems.

The good thing about them is that are pretty simple to work on, so long as you know what you are doing, but older ones tend to have issues with overheating but thats more along the lines of most older bikes.




My biggest advice is to go buy a user manual for it, it will be very handy to have around.

true dat....32:1 ratio, the dude gave me an oil bottle that has the right amount for 2 gallons of gas

and he gave me some chain lube

oh yeaaaaah, i forgot to say it doesnt have a kickstand so its laying on its side now :lol:

i turned off the gas and asked the guy if it would be a problem and he said it shouldnt matter but what do you think?

One thing my pops always told me was to never lay a bike down, I'm not quite sure why, but I'd prop it up. Maybe lean it against a wall er something...

Yeah, IDK, my dad was all butthurt about things that don't matter though, so good chance it doesn't.

Plus we only 4 strokes when I was a kid :shrug: maybe it doesn't matter with 2 strokes

yeah, alright cool, i looked it up and it seems with 2 strokes its not uch of a problem as long as the fuel is off but with 4 strokes it can make a bunch of oil end up like in the cylinder

haha thank god cause i dont really have any other place to put it other than strapped in the bed of my truck :facepalm: im gonna have to go out tomorrow to find a storage locker

haha it will be, my truck has a cap on the bed so the bike can only lay down

so its strapped in, laying down, with the tailgate down....but the back hatch to the cap is closed and locked, and the ratchet strap that is holding the bike in is fucked up and like impossible to get undone

so if someone wants to go thru the hassle of stealing it they can go for it :lol:

so an update on the bike

(as if people were waiting) :lol:

so the first day i had it, i went to a local back road to try and ride it...by myself

so i snatch this big 250 outta the bed of my truck...and sit there for like 20 mins kicking the living shit out of it cause i had no idea what i was doing

im finally dripping sweat and furious with the piece of shit bike i bought, absolutely regretting this decision 100%

so i use my manliness and load this bitch back up...alone, tie it down, and bring it home and put it in my storage unit

over a couple nights the suzuki gods came down, and worked their magic

(also the bike went from being laid down for like almost 2 days to standing up for a few days)

i go today to the storage unit with a friend who said he might be willing to buy it for 250 if its something small to fix

i pull the bike out, and pull out what i had assumed was the choke, but didnt really know

kick the mother fucker once, and BRAAAAAP....she started perfectly

so i loaded her up in the truck and went riding on some back dirt roads, and god damn she is fun :awehigh:

she probably tops out at 70 with me on it in 5th, but still, shes pretty sweet i gotta say

going out tomorrow morning to ride again :super:
