Democracy proved wrong in 2003
    #1818203 - 08/15/03 08:26 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Shit I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Democracy's fundamentals will be shattered this year and the whole mess will have to be thrown out. California, governed by a free and educated people, are going to elect Arnold Schwartzenaiger their governer.

This will be the most well-covered election in the history of mankind. Press will have free and fluid access to all sorts of sordid details (for which california's tv industy may recover growth) from which the public can have a fair and honest debate. And they will pick that guy from "Rambo".

I think thats been a fair amount of time. We've given this whole democracy idea a fair shake. Its time to move onto new models of world control.

What do you think would be a good new world order. Rule by hyperdimensional nuerocomputers is an obvious choice but of course the technology isn't there yet.

I'm thinking we hand out leadership in yearly lotteries or something like that. And everyone gets shot after they serve their term, so they don't try to cheat the system for self gain. It may sound ridiculous, but is Rambo that great of an alternative?

I think we should just make Jesse Ventura king of the world.

Don't worry, they WON'T pick Rambo. That would be a tragedy.

They're going with the TERMINATOR!!!

What's wrong with Rambo?

At least he starred in a pr0n flick. That makes him more qualified than most anybody to be a governor.

I'm not holding the porn flick against him.

But did you see the rating it got?  2.2 out of 10 according to the link you provided!

sorry, Sly is not running, so shut up about Rambo.... its an impossibility this year.

By the way, having fucking Aaaaahhnold running the state isn't a very wise idea EITHER, in my opinion; especially for people who are into various drugs, like many of us here at the Shroomery - Arnold has been supporting so much after-school shit around here that its going to be impossible for kids to find drugs soon; they'll be too busy playing fuckin tug-of-war at the park under governmental supervision or some shit..

These kids will have no time to snap out of this American Dream dead-end, and we'll be continuing right along this literally Earth-Shattering path..

I think the main gist of my post is that, one of the assumptions of Democracy is that a free and educated people are the most capable in terms of picking their leader. But here we have a free and educated people, and if they pick Arnold, then perhaps democracy itself is broken.

Why? Beause someone you don't have a high opinion of might get elected? People aren't born politicians, the whole idea is that anyone who wants to can try and make a difference. I think this whole California recall thing is fascinating.

--------------------
The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

Remember, he's not the first actor to run for California Governor. Ronald Reagan was elected previously, and some people think he did a great job.

Perhaps not. Democracy is broken if Arnold is elected? That makes no sense.

"Unless arnold is practiceing voodoo to make people like him."

You may be on to something here.

"News flash: Our country is not a democracy." -We are not a direct democracy. It's called representative democracy.
