That is pretty fast for sclerotia to form, what are your temps?  I am going to try apple sawdust for a master spawn jar, I think it would be easier to scoop.

Pressure cooked 2 jars of sawdust for 1 hour at 15psi........lids and filters held up perfectly.  I will inject 1 spore syringe in each jar tomarrow, I feel better about this time around.

The jars got very cool so I injected the spores.  The last injection site came off with the needle, my silicone didn't hold there.  There is also some fluid in the bottoms of the jar, perhaps from the injection........they did get a whole syringe and I never used that much before with cubes.  I put tape on the hole asap so I hope that was quick enough.

1 syringe per jar? that is a lot! I hope it colonizes smoothly

If I had the time, money & experience, I would of started the spores on agar.  Finding myc from a good wedge is the best way, but I am lazy and budget crunched.

I believe I see mycelium growing, tiny threads that look like morchella myc.  Hard to tell since the morel myc is the same color of the soaked sawdust.  It's only noticable between the sawdust pieces, little stands of what I believe to be, mycelium!  I first noticed these threads a day or two ago, they appear to be growing!

Addition:  I think I will use a measuring teaspoon (that is metal) to tranfer spawn to my jars.  A teaspoon should be plenty & there are 48 teaspoons per cup.  I have six cups of sawdust that should have sclerotia when transfered.  It only takes one sclerotium to colonize a jar of substrate, so I should be good.

I'd say it's exploratory mycelium, thin strands of Hypae.  Not very matted or dense yet & jar #2 that had a malifuntion isn't as far along.  I will get some pics up once these are more visable.

I am worried a little bit about bacteria that may have been introduced into the jar that malfuntioned.  It does have slower growth so there is a difference between the two jars.  I don't smell bad odors when I put my nose to the filter.  It's still early and it's possible that it could go either way.  I do see strands of Hypae, in both jars.  There is simply more Hypae visable in the jar that didn't malfunction.  Morchella is a fast cultivator and I am interested in how much competition it can outgrow.  Mycelium secretes enzymes that isolate contaminates, nature can overcome so if you have studies on this topic post 'em up!

Morel mycelium is weird stuff, not at all like growing shrooms.  The mycelium isn't colonizing in thick tufts that exand slowly.  It's like long hypae that spreads out before it thickens & becomes dense tufts.  I don't believe it's cobweb mold, to early to be sure.  The sawdust was pc'd for an hour at 15-16psi.  If it was cobweb mold the jar that malfunction should have more & it has less.

A very simple text that describes a little bit about mycelium cells & digestive enzymes.  I want something more technical, so I am going to search.  This thread isn't very popular but there hasn't been much success.  I won't give up before I have a morel.

Found a little spot where the myc is growing very classic like.  Rizo stuff for sure, seems to be good spores.  I only saw web's against the glass when the light was good, then this stuff.

The myc is very fina at first. It thickend as time goes on. But its very fast growing. At first it resembles a very fine spider web. As it grows if conditions are right it will form small white tufts which will then turn orange brown. These are the sclerotia.

Greetings Russian subervsion agents

Looks like morels, not sclerotia.  I am not seeing growth that I want.  i am wondering if a cold/frozen snap would trigger germination.  I am thinking a print and agar is the next option.  Then transfr to grain.  I just realized that spores freeze over the winter, so that may help?

The culture simply had brown ultra small/fine webs, up against the glass in spots.  I can't see anything on the saw dust.  I think an agar to grain transfer, from a spore print is next.  I am going to look for morels, out at the farm too.  I might, if I find any morels, make a syringe from one mushroom!

I shook the jars yesterday, i see bright orange stuff in the first jar (the jar that didn't malfunction).  I think it's close to time, to get a spore print and agar plates going!  It is interesting to see what grows, good thing there should be no anthrax spores around.  It's probably a tree fungus, I don't know what all grows on applewood.  I also want to get at least one apple tree.  My budget is limited, so I can only focus on so much at once.  I also want some Rhodiola Rosea and ginseng seeds. Some lizard tail turtle foot tobacoo seeds as well!

I want to avoid botchalism, the most.  It gets scary with home made foods too!  I have tasted bad home made tomatoe juice.  God awful stuff, I was really afraid that it might be botchalism.  I think it was bacteria.  I found two jars, from last years poject~
