You do realize those were extremists? you probably missed my edit but Muhammad vastly improved the lives of women during his time.

Islam actually teaches some things Feminists around here would get behind(im assuming). The reason for everything but the hands and face being covered is because people used to harass and molest Muhammad's wives and daughters so they started covering up. They teach that men cannot control their impulses therefore women should cover up to avoid rape, harassment, etc.  Its optional in most places anyway, and even if a western women(white american) were to go to marakesh or something without a shaw and modestly dressed they would get felt up catt calls etc.

I think the average American knows nothing of Islam and insults it quite frequently. Especially when you get dumbasses burning the Koran to make a statement and shit.

I think you took me wrong. I was saying women are oppressed currently in the middle east. I know everything you just said already and did not mean to talk about Islam but the state of women's rights in many places in the middle east in generally. I was not insulting Islam at all, I'm talking about the extremists who run things in many areas including social conditioning. This leads to, as you even mentioned women are treated as sexual objects and that rape is not the fault of the rapist but rather his instinct. Plus there's the horrible state of women's education there.

Helping girls to get an education because education is a right is nothing like what Al Qaeda would ever say.

To the people in the middle east, what we have done with their resources and to their countries is seen as a serious offense because of the effect it has had on the people.
