Hi All,

First of all, thanks to all you out there for your input, this site is really great. I have been researching for a few weeks and went on my very first hunt tonight. Please take a look at the pics and let me know if I am on the right track.

Info:
Substrate: Cow Dung surrounded by tall grass.
Location: MID North Carolina
Weather: It's been raining a ton the last few weeks and the temp is 85-88 average.
Cap: Bell shaped with rust colored tip gradually fading to light brown/cinnamon.
Stem: White and shiny still moist from growth, no blueing yet as I have not touched them much.
Gills: Same color as cap, light brown/cinnamon.
Grouping: All shrooms were single growers/not clumped.
Age Assesment: I think they are still young as I didn't encounter any that were discolored or infected.

Thanks again for all the great advice, pics and resources!

M

Hmmm...

mmmm...

Although a spore print would help, the caps really look more like a Conocybe than anything else. Did they bruise blue?

I dont believe those are active nor of any use. Take a sporeprint...see what it tells us

I'd agree with conocybes as well. Don't eat them, they could be poisonous.

They do look like Conocybes. They're fairly common in N.C. They pop up quick after rain. You need to take a spore print to confirm the ID.
Keep looking though, it may take a few days for anything interesting to fruit. Check shady areas in the pasture, and also check any ditches or creeks that may have run-off from the manure.

Those mushrooms look very similiar to the ones I find on my lawn all the time which are Conocybe Lactea, a poisonous species, but you found those on dung soo they are something different. But I agree with the others, they look like some sort of Conocybe.
