Sit cake directly on perlite or not?
    #1760246 - 07/29/03 04:36 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Heres another issue with conflicting thoughts. Im pretty close to birthing some cakes and was wondering if I should sit them directly on the perlite or should I put something between them? Some say its ok and some say the cakes get waterlogged. So, whats the best way??

Either way will work. Try it and if they start to look water logged, then put a piece of al. foil under them.

Set them directly on. They will not get water logged. Water can only help.

i wouldnt set them on the perlite. you will get contaminants easier. just put them on the jar lids or on a piece of foil.

id most def reccomend -not- sitting them on perlite
try this:
wet a cake somehow ( you should dunk your cakes before birthing.. do this then ), and roll it into some vermiculite to get a thin layer on.
then put it on a plate or something to avoid direct contact with perlite.. If youre worried about contams w/ the perlite, add a bit of h202 to it, but not so much liquid that itll be way oversaturated

Absolutely not true. I would have something between them for the first flush and then set them directly to rehydrate them.

The mushrooms will grow up towards the light rather than down towards the reflection of the light.

i just read on someones grow log that they put a centimeter of verm on the perlite then put teh cake on that and have excellent results.

Sounds like they're asking for contams.
