Okay I have read a few teks and am not sure what to do with my cakes in my terranium. Should I place the cakes directly on the damp perlite, or should I place the cakes on the lid of the jar that the were origionally in? Another method I read says to put mesh wire over the perlite and place the cakes on that. Anyway, from personal experience, what has been found to be the best method?

mesh is the best way to go. If you can't get mesh put them on the jar lids. If you have metal lids they can rust so it is advisable to put the cakes on sterilized pieces of tinfoil. you don't want to leave your cakes directly on the perlite for prolonged periods of time as they can become waterlogged. It is good to put ur cakes directly on the perlite inbetween flushes or if they look dried out so that they can rehydrate. I would advise following the dunk tek on some of your cakes and see how that goes. before birthing your cakes put the jars in a ziplock bag or two just to make sure it's sealed and leave them in the fridge for a day to coldshock them. this will help induce pinning. you want to make sure the ziplocks are sealed because as the air cools its volume decreases and it will suck in air from the fridge and your fridge isn't very sterile. good luck, and I hope this helped.

Yeah, or you can probably use a mixture of bleach and water and rub down the tinfoil real good.

70% isopropryl alcohol from the pharmacy will do the trick. Cheap too.
Just swab the aluminum foil with it and let it dry for a minute.
