Cultural Relativism

When i was first introduced to the topic in acadedmia i was as my professor put a "hard core CR guy."  But i sat and talked with her after a class and the more i thought i about it the more i realized maybe cultural relativism is flawed.  MAYBE it is.

In case you don't know CR is basically this "there are no truths in the world, the world is as it is, and it's up to the observer to interpret what the world is as morally right or wrong."

Some wikipedia guy (i hate using it as a source buts its quick and it MIGHT be right, who knows its wiki right?)

For example.  If came up to deCypher.  I'll use him as the example cuz i know him IRL.  If what ever it is i told deCypher had 50/50 chance of being either a lie or the truth, could a society or culture function? If everybody all of the time had 50% probability of telling you a lie could society function?  At first my hard core CR mind thought
"well yes it could function, just not very well." and the more i have thought about this the more i have come to question cultural relativism.  I believe it is 99% a fact... how ever how can it be a fact if i don't believe in it 100%.  It's interesting to think about it.  Are there some universal moral standards that must be there in ALL cultures for society to function???

Just seems like one of those neverending paradoxes that I still don't see any way of "solving", if it even needs be.  I try to just observe and laugh, after all this is eternity, and eternity could be certain or uncertain depending on the conditions of the mental observer as well as the observed.  And here we go deep down that dark rabbit hole again, although it is fun.

The only thing I know for certain is uncertainty. :uhoh:

A lethargic, unintelligent, pretentious position that empowers undeveloped minds.

There is truth, only it doesn't come from you and it doesn't come from the world, it comes from a developed intelligence that can see quite clearly the truth in a way that cannot be verbalized. When the world is complex enough from your own complex use of your brain, meaning and truth emerges from the complexity.

You are right. YOU. You can be dogmatic, or you can be absolutely right... it's merely a choice and a clever use of the brain that differentiates the two.

When you are right, and you know you are right, you see the poison this "your opinion is the same as my opinion" crap is, it is experienced as a diminishing intelligence, a blunt state of mind... a destructive, herd-honoring desperation to keep us all at the same level because we have no faith in ourselves, but if we all do the same, at least the herd will survive, and we all belong to it... really, that doesn't even work, but by the time you believe that you're too dumb to realise it doesn't work.

At the end of the day, YOU are right. YOU DEFINITELY ARE. YOU KNOW YOU ARE. I'm not right, YOU ARE. If you simply honestly believe you are right, you will get things right, and you will be right.

It is true that anyone who claims to have the truth is full of shit, because it is merely a claim and claims are claims, the only real thing is experience, so truth is an experience. Make them have the experience, or shut your mouth.

Or post repetitively about it on Shroomery for shits and giggles.

btw if you turn into one of those people social situations that's always right and is completely disregarding of other views, pat yourself on the back because if you can do that without hestitation, then it's proof you ARE right.

It's about trusting yourself. You will find if you do that you just plain avoid or talk shit to some people, and to others you discuss things nicely. It is your intuition, your door into the cosmic mind opening and all it took was to trust yourself.

I think the universe is trying to teach most people to trust themselves, then new vistas arise.

We determine what is "true" based on the predictions that can be made from such truths.  If I drop something, it will fall to the ground - this is the truth. Why do I know this? Because I have seen it in the past, and can therefore make a prediction.  Granted, there is no absolute truth.  It is always possible that we're living in some big video game, where gravity is an allusion.  However, it doesn't change the way we live our lives because in the context of that video game, gravity is still gravity.

Lets stick to ethics as its CULTURAL realivitism.  Everyday I'm convinced more and more the forums here are 80% 16-19 white kids who think they know everything because they're a pot head and the government/institutions are to blame for everything that is bad.  I get it, I was a teenager too... But let's stick to the topic at hand not preach your stereotypical hippie jargon and actually critically think.  I get it everything is one and everything is connected and the universal truths are transcendental experiences that cannot be spoken and only understood through experience.  I know I've tripped my BALLS off too. I get what your saying.

I'm sorry if I'm being judgmental, pushy and an asshole but let's go.  Lets spark something new here I'm tired of the same old shit over and over I GET IT!
