By the sounds of our talks she doesnt want to keep it. We cant afford a baby..but I feel like every reason we cone up with to justify an abortion just doesnt outweigh the value of life. Im very conflicted....this blows

How about you BOTH read this:
A worried woman went to her gynecologist and said:

'Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help! My baby is not even 1 year old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together.'

So the doctor said: 'Ok and what do you want me to do?'

She said: 'I want you to end my pregnancy, and I'm counting on your help with this.'

The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady: 'I think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for you too.'

She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.

Then he continued: 'You see, in order for you not to have to take care of 2 babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we're going to kill one of them, it doesn't matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.'

The lady was horrified and said: 'No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to kill a child!'

'I agree', the doctor replied. 'But you seemed to be OK with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution.'

The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point.

He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's already been born and one that's still in the womb. The crime is the same!

So your saying an unborn baby would not feel pain? Does not have a heartbeat or brain functions? They also respond when things are placed on the stomach or to hearing the mothers voice all while still in the womb. They just have not been born yet. killing a child is killing a child no matter what.

Well I don't see any reason anyone who is willing to have sex knowing what the outcome could always be, no matter the type of birth conrtol used, then they shouldbe able to man the fuck up and take care of their child. That  child didn't ask for it's parents to be so damn immature about things, if your old enough to fuck then you should be mature enough to do the right thing. If not, then you should not be having sex.

Yes, this is exactly the case, depending on the stage of pregnancy.

yeah i totally get that, but just at this point in time at my age, it would be irresponsible and unfair for me to bring a kid into the world in an unstable relationship, in a situation where i have no house or secured means of providing for him. and 20 years is a big commitment. i'm not ready for that at this point in my life. so i'd definitely be looking at abortion. me personally though i am careful and don't think i would get into a situation like this int he first place. but if i did, yeah, i'd look for the abortion.

Rhetoric?
OMG
What is wrong with people?
Do any of you realize how many well suited parents are on lists to receive and love a new baby?
Orphans are from the 1800s.  OMG we wonder why our country is in the position it is.
I am glad I'll be dead and gone before "the millennium kids" come to power.
Instant gratification and no responsibility for actions.
No respect for life experience.  No respect for life in general.
Point and case, I am moving, I need a job when I get there and a close friend owns a few fast food franchises.  His 19 year old daughter REFUSES to "flip burgers".
I told him to sign me up I'll start the day I get there.  That's the difference 20 years makes I guess.
In another thread dude is asking for help growing a plant I have 15+ years growing and breeding, have a college degree in horticulture and CEA.  Yet this young man argues me even after asking for help.  I pity the future of our country :-(

"Abort that shit"
What if anyone of your mothers said that?
This discussion is truly disturbing to me.  I am not against women's right but the non chalante manner in which the demographic speaks in direct correlation to a human life on a board dedicated to higher knowledge is disturbing and quite frankly, disgusting.

but mahrishi, i'm interested to see hwo you would respond to the following hypothesis:

lets say for arguements sake, that one never intended to have a child. they were never intending to bring a child into this world, and so on this basis, the child was never going to be born anyway. does this make any difference to your views on abortion?

what about the harvesting of stemcells and embryo's from fertile females? yes these represent a possible human, but when they were never intended to be conceived, there is no loss.

interested to hear what you think about this.

Ok, simple solution, if your not ready for what sex can bring then you aren't mature enough to be having sex. I never said to keep the baby and raise it, there is always adoption. I do not agree with abortion. There is only a couple exceptions though, for instance a young girl, I'm talking like 13 and under gets raped by her daddy/uncle/brother or even a stranger and become pregnant. Yes they could do adoption as well but they are too young to be forced to go through a pregnancy and the changes it will have on their young body. It's not fair to them. And the only other reason I could see for abortion would be if there was extreme problems with the pregnancy that could end up taking the mothers life.

But do I think that someone should be able to just go out and kill their unborn baby because they spread their legs and oopsie. No way. People need to learn that if they do not want a child, they need to take the proper precautions. There are many forms of birth control out there and even morning after pills for when a slip up does happen. You don't wait until they are far enough along to find out they are pregnant to do something about a slip up.

i'd also like to hear how you respond to the post of mine above your most recent post boobookity,

but thats the thing, and you may not like this, but people want to have sex. people who are careless and unresponsible. people aren't going to abstain from sex untill they are responsible enough to care for a child. thats just reality as sad as it may be.

and i think it is unfair on the woman to make her essentially carry a baby for 9 months and then put it up for adoption. when one has a child their whole life changes. and i'm just simply not ready for that. ontop of this, just as any other adult does, i want to enjoy women and etc etc. keep in mind i did say i'm very careful and wouldn't get into a situation like this, but i'm just saying i can see how people would opt for abortion int hese situations.

does your opinion change based on the time since conception? i.e. do you believe that any abortion is wrong, or only abortions after a certain time period, etc etc?

i agree that people need to be responsible and handle their situations better, but i still think people should have the choice about whether or not to bring the child to life at that point in time. its too big of a life changing thing to be forced on someone for a mistake. even criminal matters don't impose 20 year obligations on people for a mistake.

I see what your saying but I do not agree. If people do not want a child but have a slip up, as these things do happen then they should carry the morning after pill for such a thing. Then they won't have to worry and won't have to kill an unborn child. And no, I think abortion of any kind at any time during a pregnancy is wrong. But that's just me. I do believe in a woman's right to choose and have friends who have had an abortion and they still regret it to this day. It tore one of em up pretty bad. But I know she thought she was doing the right thing because they didn't have the means to be having nor taking care of a child at the time.
I think they should keep the baby, it's an especially hard subject for someone like me who has been trying for 2 yrs to have another child but am not able to. It pisses me off to see others who are perfectly healthy and able, get pregnant and just throw the baby away like trash. That IS what they do ya know....

yeah i'm sorry to hear that, but thats fair enough. agree to disagree i guess. i can see your point of view as well. i know its fairly gruesome what happens in abortions. but as a law student they teach us that intention is 50% of the assessment. if one never formed the intention to have a child then i think they should be guilt free in aborting the child. i'm not trying to sound heartless in saying that. thats just the way i see it.. best of luck in the future!

Thanks
As for the whole intent thing though, I also once knew a girl who was a neighborhood slut. Of course she didn't ever want to or intend to have a child but she got pregnant. She went and had an abortion and within 2 weeks was having unprotected sex yet again with the would have been baby daddy's best friend.
Anywho, we need more people like you around here haha. Your one of the first I have seen who just discussed their POV without trash talking or name calling lol
