GH Design - #2 - Please Review
    #17390914 -

OK Guys.. I have changed my GH design based on feedback that I received during my last thread.

Please review this updated design and let me know your thoughts. I was going to try and get away with using a cool mist but instead I am going to buy a Fogger to help with RH. I am also not going to seal the bottom and put in Fans.. instead I will open up bottom to help with FAE.

Please review and provide additional thoughts and/or considerations.

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR CONTINUED HELP!

Here is an updated version based on the feedback I received below.

Looks good. But be careful with electronic devices inside a GH with very high humidity. Could be a fire hazard.

If you are referring to the LED Rope Lights; they are water proof and will not present a fire hazard.

My GH looks similar but without humidity sensors.
The lights and the fan are on the outside.
Fan and humidifier are controlled by timer.

You do not want to colonize inside of your greenhouse

Other than it looks good. And you should be able to fit 3-4 12qt trays on each shelf

Does everyone else agree that I should not colonize inside of the GH? My house is too cold so maybe I can just place the bin for colonization outside the greenhouse..the space heater should keep that area warm...

Also; I think I will add a fan to the closet to help with FAE.

It's possible to colonize inside the greenhouse. But why do you want to do that? Dont you have enough place outside the GH? You would have more place to fruit.

You can put a box next to the space heater.. but you should check the temperature first.

Yes, do that.

Heat the ambient temp in the room you are going to be working in. If you heat the ambient temp you will not need to set them in a box. Just set them on a shelf

Much more effective for cultivating

I would honestly just spend 40 bucks on a ultrasonic at walmart with a large reservoir instead of the repti-fogger though

Thats what i forgot to tell when i wrote that my GH looks similar.
Sometimes repti fogger are more expensive than ultrasonics.
I also use an ultrasonic. On my ultrasonic you can set the 'blow power'. It is set on maximumel level. It also provides some FAE at max.

I got my Repti-Fogger brand new for under $40.....

Was your suggestion just for pricing or was there another reason to not use the Repti-Fogger?

I used a repti fogger when I first began, they work great

The reservoir is tiny even if you use a two-liter bottle.
My $40 ultrasonic has a 1.5gallon recirculating tank. It lasts a week and a half between fills with my set up.
The repti-fogger will work great, you'll just have to keep an eye on the water level.

I would also recommend putting fans back into your setup, or just getting a filter-style cool mist. Ultrasonics don't provide FAE on their own and it's going to get everything pretty wet if you don't have good circulation.

thats true... i always mistake cool mist and ultrasonic. so i have a coolmist where you can set the 'blowing power'.

Do you think a Fan in the Closet will provide enough FAE as opposed to adding the fans back into the GH?

Probably not. You need something that is going to swirl the ultrasonic fog around the GH, otherwise it's going to get everything too wet.
Even the computer fans alone probably won't be enough.

OK.. I wil add the fans back in for FAE and I will also place an ocilating fan in the closet to stir the heat from space heater and also increase FAE for Fan intake.

I figuered that I would put the exhaust fan at the bottom since CO2 will sink and we dont want that to settle.

Here is a revised drawing showing the changes.

Go ahead and poke more holes please.

It looks good, worthy of a test run or two for sure
If your subs are getting too wet or not enough FAE, consider making slits in the sides for more airflow or adding a filter-style cool mist.
But it looks good now man, good job

Any ideas on the fogger input location? I currently show it coming in from the top.

I am concerned that when the fans are on that the fog will be sucked right out.

Maybe I should have come in from the side opposite of the fan intake location.

Thoughts?

Re: GH Design - #2 - Please Review [Re: Luther]

It'll work great. the intake fan will disperse the mist and keep everything from getting too wet. The fog will naturally cascade downwards anyways.

Sweet.

I have ordered most of the parts so I will be building the GH over the next few weeks.

I will be innoculating 5 - 1 lb grain bags either tonight or tomorrow to start the process.

you cant power a space heater via hygrotherm fyi its only 500 watts space heaters are about 1500 watts you would need a decently expensive controller for that from my knowledge im sure cheaper ones are out there but i havent found them

What OP needs is to use an oil-filled radiant space heater to heat the room nice and evenly. Barely draws any power, heats the room quick.

I am going to use the 1000w Zilla Temperature Controller. I will be hooking up my heater to that unit. I have tested it and I am only at around 4-600 watts to heat up the area that the GH will be located.

Instead of a space heater; I will be grabbing a small oil filled heater from C-List.

Things are moving along. I received the greenhouse and was happy with the quality vs. the price. I just setup the Greenhouse with the Oil-Filled Heater and the Temperature controller monitoring the heat. I have inoculated 5 grain bags and placed them inside the GH for colonization. Once the entire setup it complete I will take some pictures.

Make sure you don't worry about maintaining the humidity/FAE in the GH until you are fruiting, there is no need.

The way Frank makes this sound is like it'll be a fire hose dousing the GH with water. I don't think that'll be the case.

You're vouching for more and more FEA, and in my experience that could cause issues that are hard to pin point. The dynamic RH will be too high. Meaning, you will have fluctuations in RH that the meters cannot keep up with  and you end up with the sub being too dry.

This is a setup tuning issue really, and it will just take some experimentation to get it right. IME my little ultrasonic provides enough FAE for cubes. I have a small internal fan that I run on low voltage to just stir the fog around as it's piped in. I don't have giant exhaust fans cycling the internal air over 4 times a minute (exaggeration)

Just be aware of how much fog and FAE you're really running through, watch that analog hydrometer, watch your cakes and see what they say.

Also, a couple trays of perlite provide a good ballast if you don't have the GH packed full.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Every impeller-type cool mist I've tried is basically just throwing water like a hose. It's fucking ridiculous :crazy2:

Ya know, I misread his first post. I didn't realize he was continuing to use the cool-mist along with the ultrasonic.

I don't have any experience with a cool-mist impeller humidifier, it may be a wild beast.

That's a my bad for not catching that...

I am still waiting for my grain to colonize. I checked last night and out of the 7 bags; 2 were bad. One had black/green grains and another had a large yellow spot.

I tossed both of those bags and I am hoping that the other 5 continue ok. What is weird is that of the two bags that failed each was a different strain and one was WBS and the other was organic rye berries. This will be the last time that I purchase pre-sterilized spawn in bags as I dont like the added variables that are out of my control.

Is it a problem to keep picking up the spawn bags and taking a look? Can any issues arise? Right now they are about 80% colonized so I am hoping that they will be ready to put into a bulk substrate by next weekend.

I have included a picture of one of the failed bags below.

All of the bags have condensation but I only had problem with 2 of the 7 bags.

They definetly are not soaked though. I think the condensation is from me heating the closet that this are sitting in...
