which one would be better for air circulation and keeping contaminants out

Tyvek = GE (Colonization)
Polyfil = FAE (Fruiting)

In other words, use Polyfil.

I only use tyvek (USPS envelopes) on my monos during colonization AND fruiting.....I've gotten crazy size fruits (biggest being 17g dry) so I'd say it doesn't really matter too much

Does micropore tape work the same as tyvek?

I here of people packing the poly fill to tightly and restricting air flow, and people filling holes to lose to maintain humidity.

Would just using tyvek take the guess work out.

I just moved a mono into fruiting yesterday and used poly fill.  However I have a bunch of tyvek lying around.  Should I use it?

I disagree with that post.  The bottom holes should be stuffed tightly(very tight), and the top holes on the end of the monotub should be stuffed loosely.  Fresh air in through the top, out through the bottom.

I would not be using tyvek or micropore tape for anything to do with fruiting.  You will restrict air flow.

I too have seen many polyfill tubs fail due to too much or too little, part of the reason I use tyvek....YES it takes the guess work out of it.

I say use the tyvek if you're not too comfy with the poly

would tyvek with a fan pointed at the tub be the best idea

No, and no.

Tyvek does not allow for FAE, only GE, and never have a fan pointed directly at any tub/chamber.

I've used polyfil, tyvek, and micropore tape on my mono's and polyfil has had the best overall functionality. All will work, but with each one you have added issues. If you don't have extra supplies I would go with polyfil, but if you've got the shit and feel like experimenting, by all means try out all 3. I've even thought about using SFD's as mono filters, but have yet to have a tub I was willing to risk to try it. I honestly think that if you were to use SFD's and have a fan on a timer with 30 minutes every 3-4 hours it may work. But that is definitely speculation and would not try it unless you're willing to lose a batch for science.

Full automation is my long term goal, however I believe I will have to finish my greenhouse before I ever see that day.

Owngrow,

That little tag that Citric has going under his avatar, the one that says "trusted cultivator", yeah that one actually means something.

You should HEAVILY consider his advice!

How will packing poly loosely at the top and tightly at the bottom cause air to flow in at the top and out at the bottom?

Also in the same thread a TC said it was a bad idea.

Why would we use it as filter material for colonizing jars for GE but then for tubs for FAE, makes no sense, because tyvek blocks too much air for fruiting, thats why.

That's really interesting, I've never heard that before but it makes a lot of sense.
I'm testing this out with a few tubs now. I'll make sure I adjust my post accordingly if I get good results :awesomenod:

IME, I've tried both for fruiting in monotubs and polyfil definitely works better.
