Does the bible actually promise immortality?
    #17340678 -

All are dust, and all turn to dust again
-Ecclestiastes 3:20

Doesn't mention anything about going to a paradise in the clouds. Anyone know any contradictory verses?

I don't believe in the bible but I'm pretty sure that's in reference your vessel/body.

That's old testament.  God changed his mind and his personality after that and decided that the world needed hellish torture by default with a minority of people getting saved.  This damnation-by-default is "good news" to christians, not quite sure how they figure that.

God does say he's unchanging in the bible, but that's just one of the lies and evil acts he commits, so you can't really take him too seriously.

Here's some quotes showing that you have eternal life:

Revelation 14:11 “the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever and they have no rest day and night”

John 3:16 "...everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. "  (another contradiction as elsewhere it says those who don't believe in him also don't perish, they just get tortured forever out of god's love for little babies who can't know about jesus)

Revelation 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are too, and they will be tormented there day and night forever and ever.

Mark 9:48 where their worm never dies and the fire is never quenched

Remember, god sent his only son so that you could be tortured forever

Ecclesiastes was written by King Solomon as he was getting old sick and dying.  He became very cynical at the end of his life.

True. He was a rich bastard who knew all his treasures were nothing but vanity. I'd be bitter too.

Firstly, i believe the bible is metaphorical and has been corrupted by people in search of power. When they say you'll be saved, it means enlightened. When it speaks of temptation, it means the desire to move away or avoid that enlightenment due to fear of what it entails.

John 3:16 "for god so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

there it is.

What does that mean? The Bubble was written by people and is merely a collection of hundreds of handed-down stories.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Dr. Emoto got his ideas from Jesus although the Bible (Leviticus) has very strong passages against homeopathy. "If a drop should sleep with another drop..."

Has anyone ever read the Nag Hammadi texts?  They put a whole different spin on things.

Hello

Q:Does the bible actually promise immortality?
A:Yes it does

Romans 2:7  To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
Romans 2:8  But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

1Corinthians 15:48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
1Corinthians 15:49 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.
1Corinthians 15:50 I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
1Corinthians 15:51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed--
1Corinthians 15:52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
1Corinthians 15:53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
1Corinthians 15:54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."

2Timothy 1:8 So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,
2Timothy 1:9 who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
2Timothy 1:10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

2Corinthians 4:17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

Hey Blessed, how do you feel about the original verse I posted above?

All are dust, and all turn to dust again
-Ecclestiastes 3:20

Seems kind of right to the point. All rots and decomposes at the end of the day. This was sort of the vibe in the OT (it never mentioned heaven and hell). The afterlife was a NT invention. Why do you think that is?

If you are interested in the validity of the bible the Nag Hammadi texts are a must-read imho.  They are Gnostic texts uncovered in 1945 in Egypt and have been dated around the 2nd Century AD.  They pretty much read as missing bits of the bible, extra teachings of Jesus etc, except they contain a different creation story and basically say that a lot of the bible (especially the OT) are lies meant to deceive us.
