The bible includes the new testament. It did not exist before Jesus.
Webster says: Quote:
1capitalized a: the sacred scriptures of Christians comprising the Old Testament and the New Testament b: the sacred scriptures of some other religion (as Judaism)

Definition (b) clearly refers to a bible that pre-dates Jesus.
And wikipedia says:
Quote:
The Bible is the central religious text of Judaism and Christianity.
Modern Judaism generally recognizes a single set of canonical books known as the Tanakh, or Hebrew or Jewish Bible. It comprises three parts: the Torah ("Teaching", also known as the Pentateuch or "Five Books of Moses"), the Prophets, and the Writings. It was primarily written in Hebrew with some small portions in Aramaic.
In Christianity, the Tanakh is known as the Old Testament. The Christian Bible includes both the Old Testament and a collection of newer canonical books known as the New Testament.
You'll notice my main complaints are with the Old Testament. I think it's a vile collection of hate-filled rubbish and that it absolutely encourages violence. The New Testament is much better. In theory, the NT negates much of the old-fashioned teachings in the OT, but in practice people are still happy to quote the OT as justification for their bigotry.

Dude, you have issues, and attempting to understand doesn't seem to be one of them. Apparently, you can't discern the difference between the muddled ideas that were laid on you as a child by uncomprehending people, and a contemporary, guided analysis of biblical writings. Pick up a copy of The Jesus Mysteries by Freke and Gandy at a library, and see a completely different take. Or, pick up Liberating the Gospels by John Shelby Spong for a brilliant analysis of what the words were intended to say, to whom they were directed, for what circumstances each was written for, and why. That way, by the effort of reading just two books, you will be able to drop this adolescent cynicism and belly-aching, and maybe redirect your mind to some real heights before you simply turn into a bitter old man. In other words, get some new teachers 'cause whomever taught you the first time understood nothing and did you some long-term harm. So, fix it.

Adolescent parody perhaps. Just mirroring the beliefs of others. It was a childish thing to do I guess... but it was fun. I am OK though, thanks for the concern Markos. You've recommended the Shelby book before, I should check it out.

Well, if you do, it is not something that one can wiz through. I read a lot and it took me a long time, not because it's difficult, but because it blew my mind so much at times, I had to stop and absorb it. Most everyone really has no idea what they've been hearing OR reading their whole lives! Spong is not 'out there' like the gnostic Freke and Gandy, but a conservative elderly gent (whom I met recently) and a scholar with a mission - to US! - to anyone who lives contemporaneously with him, the author. The Bible is worth re-learning from Spong's learned perspective. It will leave you intellectually more enlightened about the Bible than anyone you'll meet from now on, and you'll be correct in the face of gargantuan ignorance, I promise.

There is nothing more important that being right and having other people recognize it.
