Dont let pastors read it to you.

It isnt that bad, most of it is pretty good stuff, but sometimes people take advantage of the "belief" in others and take one out of a thousand scriptures to put them into bondage..... when most of the bible is talking about being free.

As far as the church using it against native cultures to secure labor, land and wealth...... that is just greedy white europeans preying on the ignorance of the masses. Christian AND native alike.

The Old Testament frequently discusses the destruction of idols and the use of something called "God's Will" to justify the invasion of other nations. Judaic monotheism is inherently virulent in that it devalues other cultures' visions of spiritual reality, aggressively replacing a pantheon of Powers and archetypes, directly representing the nature of reality, balancing each other out, with a single, often fatherly figure who WILL KICK YOUR ASS if you don't agree with His "Holy Chosen." Note that the Chosen People are always pretty much whoever have been influenced by this invasive dogma and use it to morally justify the taking of things from others. It has always been this way and still is.

Romans brought a whole new dimension to the dominator culture and carried its torch admirably. The New Testament is even worse. Its contents were selected by a committee of powermongers, and all surviving manuscripts of its tales originate hundreds of years after the supposed life of Christ.

Islam? I don't know what the fuck to think of that one. I should probably read the Quran someday, but it seems as dominator-centric as its predecessors.

Jesus sounds like a good guy. The Golden Rule is really pretty immortal, no matter what you think about the veracity of events described within the New Testament. There is definitely some spiritual meat to be found within the Bible, as well as some very good guidelines for living a meaningful life if that's what you're really looking for. I just tend to see the Bible at large as a memetic weapon of faceless, impersonal Order.

Did you know that the Roman Pagans called Christianity "atheism" as it was taking root?

Relax the mind and you'll find the possibility you want to see.
These demons can only lie in those who fail to see them.

Its because of statements like this I wonder about it at all in fact. Bottem line is that even though christianity fucks with some people's brains, It actually HELPS cirtain people.

It doesn't help anyone, whatsoever. The amount of damage Christianity, and religion in general, has caused is astounding.

If someone's morality is improved by "religion" it is because of the convenience, the persuasion, guilt, conviction, maybe the anti-depressant effects, who knows. The point is, Christianity could be replaced with the soul-soothing comforts of Pastafarianism or some other doctrine and produce basically the same results.

Im not saying the bible is real or not, But i cannot deny that there is a book THOUSANDS of years old that tells people how to live. Instead of calling them all idiots, why dont i see what it is the bible gives them and MAYBE use it for my spiritual benifit as well.

The older the book, the more true it must be, huh? The bible was written by the same folks that thought the earth was flat.

It is isn't the bible that gives them meaning. What individual ever said the bible was sufficient and left it at that? Instead, they need prayers, church groups, evening hymns, statues of Jesus, bumper stickers, cute little pamphlets, cross necklaces, evangelicals, etc. Besides, the only useful shit in there is the 10 commandments, which should come as a no-brainer to any human with all their chromosomes intact.

Also, it should be understood that you can find symbolism in almost anything, particularly literary affairs. With enough inspection, one can turn any metaphor into yet another metaphor, and so on.

Somehow drawing correlates between biblical stories and the issues of modernity doesn't render the book any more valuable.

I saw Jesus in a cave-man drawing once. So what?

if you can use the bible or any ritual or magic to lighten the burdens of life, then that is a pretty handy trick.
the craft of encorporating inspirations from every source possible is really worth learning.

personally, I find that the metaphors and ideas from the bible, are more like viral memes that are diffcult to apply to my life,
while they are very useful in a twisted way for marshalling the minds of the masses enabling hierophants like george bush to rape and pillage unhindered.

I'm referring to the Higher spiritual realm as being perfect. Not the entire multi-dimensional universe.

RIght on, Bush is a front for everyone involved.
i had a good friend who used to take pride in wearing a Fuck America T-shirt which caused much offense. It was a pretty BOLD Statement. i wonder if anyone in America would dare do that?
i'd be apprehensive.
