Yeah.  This is how I feel when I lie to someone.  I don't lie to hurt them at all, but more to save them from something that hearing could hurt them.  Such as answering yes to my mom when she asks if I am on drugs.  It can only hurt her to hear yes, and hearing no keeps her calm.  Almost the same with lying to yourself to keep yourself positive even if you are sad.  And who is to say what really is a lie?  It's all gray matter as far as I am concerned.  A little off topic, I know, but what you said made me put that into perspective.

You can see it as oxytocin flowing to create a reality of friendship. But your perception appears to be one where friendships are created in order to flow oxytocin.

Potato, potahto. And yes there is a big difference between the two perspectives. One inherently rejects design/intelligence and the other doesn't.

Those aren't mutually exclusive. The oxytocin flows, adding to the experience of friendship, and we continually seek friendship because of the oxytocin. The point is that we associate friendships with good due to the release of pleasant neurotransmitters.
