Heat or no heat food dehydrator?
    #1676455 -

I read on a post somewhere that if you use a dehydrator to dry out your shitake's, you should try and get a food dehydrator that has the option of using 'no heat' for the process. Is this true? How many people use no heat at all in their dehydrators and what is the best brand that has this option?

Thanks!!!

No heat is best , when using temps above 96*F to dry mushies , you could break down all those wonderfull vitamins and nutrients in the mushroom . Simply air dry them on a rack for 24 hours , then put into an air tight chamber with desicant for another 72 hours (or till cracker dry ) , and walla dried mushies with most of their properties still intact .
Good Luck

The "American Harvest" dehydrator has a low setting of 95 degrees.  Work's great for many people on this board.  Think about it, 95 degrees is not even that hot a day, minimal potency loss occurs at this temperature.  My friend's American Harvest works great!

Available at Wal-Mart
