Im looking for a big food Dehydrator preferbly without a heating source, all the ones I look at say they have a heating source.
Any info is appreciated.

There are countless threads that talk about this. Do a search.
The ones with heating sources that have temperature controls work well if the heat can be turned down to below 100 degrees.

disconnecting the heater can fuck up the system... just try and buy one without a heater.... I've also heard people swear that the short time of contact with heat in a heated dehydrator does NOT reduce potency.

It's not that big of a deal whether they dry on high heat or not. Mine is a single element fan less dehydrator that runs between 120-140F. People definitely aren't complaining about potency from my batches, that's for sure.

how long are they on that heat? because if it's too long, they Will loose potency, at least some of it... I think a few days in a black car in the sun can pretty much ruin a stash.

The one that I've got goes down to 90 degrees....no noticed lost potency and it's a fuck of a lot faster than using something like calcium chloride.

well how long on the heat is what I'm asking.... how long 'is ok'.... how long in a hot car, or on a dryer, etc. I've even heard of using an oven, but that just seems you would be asking to end up with bunk shrooms. Maybe the idea that heat destroys actives is highly over advertised.

Use them in the dehydrator until they are dried out. I dunno, it usually takes mine 12-16 hours to dry out. Longer sometimes if they are big shrooms. 90 degrees wont hurt them unless it's 90 degrees in direct sunlight or something. You don't want that.

i have a Nesco American Harvest Food Dehydrator and Jerky Maker and i tell you it kicks ass! Makes jerky during the day im at work. the owners manual has a dexrption for drying mushrooms. says to 'clean with soft brush or cloth. dont wash'. average drying time '4-10 hrs'. 'dry at 80-90 degrees for 2 to 3 hours then turn temp up to 120-125 degrees and dry for remaining time'. i dont think the heat will ruin potency.

I use the american harvest snackmaster set to 95 degrees and have no noticable loss of potency at all. It is wonderful, and I recommend it to everyone.
