What happens if you don't do physiotherapy after fracture

What happens if you don't do physiotherapy after fracture

I fractured a bone in my hand which turned out to be a real pain in the ass to heal, had to get metal pins put in there and when I got the pins taken out the doctor told me "the bone healed but you're not outta the woods yet, you need to do physiotherapy". I didn't bother to do the physiotherapy. That was over 5 years ago and while my hand works fine, its starting to ache mildly and I suspect this will gradually get worse. What exactly happens if you fail to do the physiotherapy after a fracture? Is it just a muscle related problem could it be a problem with the bone? Is there anything I can do about it at this point?
