I'm not into deadmau5 that much (I only have a couple of songs by him)

But I saw him live a few weeks ago and it was fucking sick although he may have been helped by my ingestion of mdma

All y'all who think he's not arrogant go watch the the Joe Rogan podcast with Deadmau5 on it. He's talking shit about ecstasy and drugs all the while he's chain smoking cigarettes and drinking. It's like is this dude for real?

deadmau5 is a douchebag in real life, his ego is way over inflated . i must admit he has made 3 or 4 good songs but the majority of his music is the same repetitive beat over and over again . he is popular for his image, mostly because of the mouse head logo.

i don't like progressive house

Deadmau5 does not require any 'figuring out.' You know what you are getting into the first 5 seconds of the song. It's great background noise, pleasant beats with clear, crystal sound.

A lot of other music requires more attention and is more abrasive the first time you hear it.

One of my favorite songs:

You just described elevator music! I'm sure MDMA will make elevator music be able to be confused with Satchmo.

I recently flamed trap music for the same reason: too repetitive. However, I love Deadmau5, even though at first listen it sounds just slightly less repetitive. If you don't get it you probably just don't want to get it, but I'll chime in and try to put it into words how someone can like Deadmau5 in the same way someone can like trap or progressive metal or classical or a drum circle or some homeless guys hitting some plastic barrels. It's all just to color in the present moment. Music is something to sing, dance and mentally masturbate to. It's something to fill in the empty silence with, just as paintings and  wallpaper and furniture and lights and plants and what-have-you fills int he visual-scape before you.

Deadmau5 can be seen as a more colorful version of shamanic drumming. Shamanic drumming is essentially just a repetitive beat to help one transverse other realities with or to just dance to around a fire. Deadmau5, for example, does that with a computer and adds other progressive sounds and varies the composition enough to where it has a feel of progressive evolution, yet still has that trance-inducing rhythm, like the shamanic drum. And instead of dancing around a fire, we tend to dance in big crowds with colorful lights and lazers. To explain why people like Deadmau5 is to explain why people like to sing and dance and paint and sculpt and kiss and fuck. It's liberating, we like it, and that's essentially all there is to it.

Just chiming in to lay down my :twocents:. Deadmau5's music is fucking horribly boring and unimaginative. And the fan fare is undeserved.

fan fare is undeserved? there are people out there that completely suck and they have millions or billions of fans. the number of fans is pretty irrelevant to talent.

He has made a LOT of tunes.

I think he deserves to be a bit arrogant, but all in all his persona is kinda goofy/chill. He has made an honest effort to differentiate EDM from ecstacy use, and he said straight up what we were all thinking about 'press play dj's'.
You don't have to like him, but the hate should be directed elsewhere.

My point still remains.

He doesn't deserve the dick-slobbering credit people in the EDM scene give him.

what people want to listen to doesn't really depend on their talent. some of them most catchy tunes were not made by anyone who put much thought into it. classical musicians were extremely talented, their music is of the most intricate but i know i don't want to listen to any of the shit.

i would rather listen to the music that comes out of video games created by people who aren't even really musicians because it sounds cooler than the majority of classical music. i don't care how fucking smart you are, if i dig it i dig it. its pretty simple.
