So was I wrong in thinking you found value in the chakra system, and applied it in your own life?

Nope, I found it to be valuable at the time before I knew of objective correlations. I would have never been able to correlate the chakras and the experiences had I not considered the chakras. It was helpful even though I think it is incorrect and full of beliefs.

I used to believe in chakras and astral travel when I was a freshman in highschool. I used to go on a forum called Astral Society a lot (anybody familiar?). After awhile I fell out of that and now I don't see any reason to believe that such chakras exist.

I do equate electrical signal and interference activity in the cerebral cortex of the brain( experiencing )
along with
synapse growth in the cerebral cortex of the brain( memory  fixation) with consciousness
or activity in mind.

when there is no activity or jammed signal activity, consciousness is off or trashed (as in black-out -or- amnesia).

all events in consciousness have correlating signal and interference events in the cerebral cortex of the brain.

Quote:
I think it is pretty straight forward, if you are perceiving the objectively verifiable reality then you are conscious. Are you aware of the objective surroundings? If so then you are conscious.

you can be conscious and locked in, i.e. not sensing nor perceiving objective surroundings.

perceiving is a step or two beyond sensing,
i.e. perceiving an unnamed thing hairy brown active mass as a dog.
before naming the thing it might just be sensation,
then it may have a few perceived qualities,
then it may come to have a perceived class ...
perceptions are associative products from memory whether with words or without.

much of consciousness is internal.

I don't think so, you are going to have to provide evidence if you want to convince me of that.

Earlier you was trying to tell me there isn't a sub-conscious and that existence doesn't exist. I'm not buying it.

So I guess you are recanting the initial assertions?

Waveforms exist regardless of observation, waveforms are existent. They precede you looking at it, and don't depend upon observation, they depend more on non-observation.

you believe because of stuff others have told you.

I will repeat what they are unlikely to tell you because they are not thinking for themselves.
they regurgitate what they have heard.
so
to reiterate what I have not heard but what I have learned by experience:
there is no subconscious mind,
chackras are not glands,
being unconscious is a state in which consciousness is discontinued.
(states are like jhanas ranging from normal to extremely resonant - like when you are variously stoned on increments of mushrooms or lsd)
these are things I will repeat and reconnect to what is observable.

Nothing I have stated requires notions of magical spirits, and nothing I have mentioned requires you to believe in stuff that is properly disproved in laboratories.

It does, however require more precise use of language when talking about mental states, stream of consciousness, sensations, and mental contents (thought forms).

It requires some understanding of what an associative process is and how memory is associative.

I will pick away at regurgitated dictionary definitions that loosely allow sensation to  blend with perception, and dictionary definitions that establish a democratic meaning to terms like consciousness by recounting all of the standard usages - standard usage is sloppy and contradictory.

or you could go with standard usage.
Don't read me,
depend on Webster's and Wikipedia, I refer to them all the time,
but I make a distinct effort to think for myself, and I encourage others to do that as well.

Yeah so I guess I should believe you then huh . . . hypocrisy.

I know there is not awareness of the objectively verifiable world when I'm not conscious. I know the chakra's aren't something mystical. All of this I know through experience and affirm with reality.

Here's a tip, if it doesn't correlate with reality then it probably isn't real.
