a friend of mine used to allow his friends to crash at his place. and they would talk about the dumbest shit and never want to work. me and my friend worked. they would just sit at his house till he came home and i would meet him after work for drinks.
we would have to always buy this couch bums food beer and give them a share of drugs.
it made me so up set i would always get down on my friend like why do you let they stay here.
when i see homeless people i think of them now.
how i would always tell them how to get work or money but hustling, but in the end they gave off the energy like i was trying to father them. but its like if you are gonna sit there and complan about how you need money then when i tell you how to get it you make the lamest excuses ALL YEAR LONG. then its obvious you want a free ride. and if thats the case then do it at the coner not where i come and relax after a days work.

so when i see bums (and i remind you i live in one of the bum capitals of america) im like look you just dont wanna work. dont act like its your job to ask for free money. fkin a holes

imo it all comes down to the law of attraction. if they are gonna spend their lifes work saying to them selfs they have no money ect then they will never have anything.

i was told by a friend that really wealthy people will go to extrems not to deal with these kinds of energys.

i ignore them these days. if they want help they can be in my prayers.

sorry guys i just needed to vent and this was a good place to start.

There are SOOOO many here in Humboldt, Almost everytime I go into town someone asks me for money. It has made me so angry and jaded to anyone who might be labled "Homeless".

These fuck nuggets come up here, hopeing for an endless supply of drugs and good times, and do jack shit to help themselves. They hitchhike, and just get fucked up. Waste of a human life and these fuckers will not get one cent from me :strokebeard2:

Ignoring them is the best thing we Can do for them.  Helping them is the worst thing really.  By helping them to manage to live without putting effort into life, we're enabling them to continue to act in such ways.

Most panhandlers don't want to work.  They're used to a silver spoon in their mouths.  Hell, the government will PAY you to go back to school and get an education.  Will these people do it?  No, they'd prefer you help them along the way, since they don't really want to.

That seems to be the problem. The news station in my area was reporting that they can make a couple hundred dollars a day doing it. So, yeah, why get a job
When you can make easy money panhandling. You're giving up all pride but fuck it.

So then another question would be, anti vagrancy laws? Would that be effective? It wouldn't stop it but it would make it less obvious. Make it harder to get that money. And do we really want more laws from the government?

I think it's just a matter of educating the public that the 'starving man on the street corner' isn't really starving, he's just lazy.  Then most people who work hard for their money wouldn't give it away to people who have no will to work.


When I moved back up to Oregon, there was a group of kids squatting at this shitty house my roommates and I (not really my decision, but I didn't want to just tell some friends I have known for years to fuck off) decided to rent.  These kids didn't pay rent, they didn't work, they were trying to build a touring bus so they could go around and collect oil from fast food places to travel for free.  They were squatters posing as hippies.  They had shitty work ethics, treated everyone else with little concern and were downright rude.  Their band was called Profane Sass.  These pieces of shits, as I call them, would go out and panhandle for money, so they could spend on parts for their bus, but usually ended up buying alcohol more often than not. 
Seeing how these people live behind the scenes will ultimately change your opinion on them.  My friendship with these kids was short-lived, and in turn, I ended up becoming less of friends with the roommates I had moved to Oregon with.

If you live in Portland, and see hippie kids pandhandling, saying they have no place to live, trust me, they're probably squatting in someone's house, ruining someone elses life, and you should throw rocks at them.

I agree with you there. Gotta get the people to stop feeding them. I work for an American car company and they are smart enough to stand outside one the corners every day when a shift ends. They know we make decent money. Even if it's 1am they will be out there waiting. When i see em I think "why should I part with my money that I just worked my ass off for?" they'd be better off asking people leaving the plant for a job refferal.

But I guess my way of thinking is different than theirs.

There's a few 'known' homeless veterans in my area of town and every Valentines day, I buy them a meal from a fast food joint. They're always so greatful.

If I have any spare singles in the cupholder or center console I'll roll it up in a ball and throw it at them with the smallest possible window opening I can manage.  If you're desperate/lazy enough to sit on a corner, I'll toss you a dollar I guess.

I won't give them anything, but I don't mind them. They choose to beg for a living and others choose to sustain them. I can't fault someone for how they choose to live their life, so long as it doesn't prevent me from living mine.

This is my point when I see my friends just leaving their change, or saying "What am I gonna buy with a dime?" Shit adds up. I just cashed in my piggy bank for $325. It took no real effort to acquire, I just had to keep it in my pocket until I got home.

Every few months I go cash in my change and put it in my savings.  My average is 80$.  I've cashed in up to 200$ at times.  We're talking quarters and dimes here.

That's a lot of money to give away for free.  You're already giving tons away in taxes, most of those panhandlers are probably already getting your money through overpaying unemployment and other such things.


If you want to make a difference, go work at a homeless shelter serving food to people who come in, don't just hand your money away.  Otherwise people who do already have money will take it.

They have to show more for me to give up money. Sometimes I will give a few dollars so the fuck can have a good night getting drunk off his ass. It's his entertainment, there's different types of homeless people from different situations, some old & war veterans...are too old and set in ways to go back to school...being that old as well is difficult as fuck to get a job. As long as their good people I'll help out on a blue moon.

Give away a dollar a day and that's 365$. That's an extra paycheck to many. There is nothing uncool about being savvy with your money. Regardless of how tiny the amount is. Everything adds up.

If you're old and like to get fucked up, get a job at a liquor store, they hire crusties who just go home and drink their wages away all the time.  Hell, it's like they aren't even having to give them a paycheck because they turn around and spend it on liquor before they leave.

I will give food on occasion to the older ones.  The younger kids with dreads, I'd just as soon give them dogshit in a box.

I'm also on the camp of. If they CAN'T work I'll help. But I also know of a street corner where they have a wheelchair hidden in the grass and they take turns using it. I've seen one guy walk over, grab it out, sit in it and wheel it over to the corner.

Made me sick.
