Indiana First State to Allow Citizens to Shoot Law Enforcement Officers

Monday, June 11, 2012

Police officers in Indiana are upset over a new law allowing residents to use deadly force against public servants, including law enforcement officers, who unlawfully enter their homes. It was signed by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels in March.

The first of its kind in the United States, the law was adopted after the state Supreme Court went too far in one of its rulings last year, according to supporters. The case in question involved a man who assaulted an officer during a domestic violence call. The court ruled that there was “no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers.”

The National Rifle Association lobbied for the new law, arguing that the court decision had legalized police to commit unjustified entries.

Tim Downs, president of the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police, which opposed the legislation, said the law could open the way for people who are under the influence or emotionally distressed to attack officers in their homes.

“It’s just a recipe for disaster,” Downs told Bloomberg. “It just puts a bounty on our heads.”

I read about this yesterday on another forum.

It is interesting seeing reformation taking place inside of their own system. Maybe this is how an entire revolution will take place, and the NDAA will be repealed, 9/11 will have a thorough investigation, and....

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves.

The only reason why a cop would have to worry is if he was illegally entering the home in the first place, if they are breaking the law, why should they be upset? Just legal criminals.

Oh, well, I guess they are use to just waltzing right in..... right? That is the only reason why they would be so upset...

I don't see why this isn't law EVERYWHERE.... why should ANYONE have the right to just barge into anyones home because they feel like they have the right to?

fuck that...

dont give the NRA all the credit, it was a REPUBLICAN that penned the bill,
REPUBLICANS that voted on the bill and REPUBLICANS that signed it into law

they're also now a right to work state, meaning they followed Wisconsin's

I had nothing to do with that bill, and I'd have thought that republican
agenda would have been what most people here would have loved

I hope more states begin to adopt this law.  I have watched enough cop shows to know if someone came crashing through my doors and windows unannouced, they are gonna get to talk to my .45 first before anything else is said. The way cops bust into homes is criminal. Even if they have a warrant, it is no excuse to go busting down doors and wrecking homes.
