kosas - hindu spectrum of consciousness
    #1631160 -

I read about Kosas in the book "Yoga and Psychotherapy" - which is well worth a read. The idea is to define a spectrum of consciousness (Ken Wilber was either influenced by or borrowed from this model) from physical to pure consciousness (immanence to transcendence).

Imagine the model as an onion; each "skin" represents one kosa; the next "higher" (or more refined) state of consciousness (and/or, kosa) is within the one you're looking at.

On the outside you have the Physical body, the "food sheath", total immanence.

Next (contained within) you have the Energy Sheath, Prana Body, whatever you want to call it. This is the realm of chi, of chakras, of running energies.

Inside this you have Mind, ego, whatever you wish to call it. The part of you that is probably reading this.

Inside this is Buddhi Mind - the "observing ego", the part of you that watches yourself think, that is still there when you have no-thought.

Beyond this is the Bliss Sheath - a transpersonal state of consciousness, a "high", bliss.

Finally, the core of the onion is (to Hindus) Atman, in other words "I AM", Spirit, One, pure consciousness, the God Within, Cosmic Consciousness, Transcendence, or whatever phrase you like best. The core *projects outwards* - the layers are projections from the core.

Good model?

Light, love, liberty and happiness?

Or, how about a working knowledge of applied esotericism in order to serve as a basis for deconstructing the matrix we live in?

I enjoy models, but I don't enjoy dogma.
