Plant Oil Intake?
    #16175302 -

Its probly different for each person but i was wondering about the healthy eaters amoung you, whats your plant oil intake like?
Which oils do you take? How do you take them? How much per day?

I generally use coconut oil, avocado oil & hemp seed oil and am always switching it up until i find the right balance, recently i really like having hemp seed oil with my meals (2 tablespoons each time so 4 per day) but does this mean i should cut back on the other oils or it's ok to say add a table spoon of avocado oil on top of that so i get the benefits of both?

I also eat one avocado per day but i hear its good to take the oil aswell as its more concentrated, ive gone off coconut oil recently & now just use coconut milk in cooking. I've also found since using hemp seed oil i no longer need to moisturize my skin, just through dietry intake its enough to keep my skin moisturized which is nice as i found it impossible to get a good skin moisture balance using the oils directly on my skin, they'd always moisturize my skin nicely for half a day or so but then really dry me out after.

Interested to read what you guys & gals use & how you use it, whether it be topically, orally or anally

:peace:

I use coconut oil in my hair, on my skin, as toothpaste with baking soda, for oil pulling, and to cook!  I eat a ton of hemp seed so no hemp seed oil, I think it's better as a seed.

Don't forgot your animal oils though!

I take 1 tsp of fermented cod liver oil every day!

Also lots of butter, lard and ghee.

Remember, most plant oils do not contain very high levels of important fat soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K.

Everyone should be getting healthy servings of animal fats (from pastured animals) every day.

Eggs, Butter, Liver, whole (raw) milk!

All indigenous cultures revered these foods for their ability to make people strong, for expectant mothers to have healthy babies, etc.

remember to NEVER eat soy, corn, canola, sunflower, etc oils.  There are industrially refined and cause disease.

Oils from fatty foods (olives, coconut, hemp, avocado, walnut, etc) are fine, but many other oils are dangerous!

soon as i saw your name i know you'd have some good input, i should just PM you

i eat sardines/mackeral/cod during the week, chicken round the weekends, red meat generally turns me off unless i see a burger that needs to be raped, i mostly go by what my body wants/what i hear would be suited for it

i can't eat hemp seed for some reason, the plant matter messes with my belly in a horrible way, same thing if i make cannabutter & dont properly strain out the plant matter, it will wreak havoc on my digestion, burping like you wouldn't believe, i mean almost earth shaking burps!
im gonna try toasted hemp seeds & see ifit makes a difference

i know people always jump on new things too quick, but i must say, out of all oils ive tried recently hemp oil has made the biggest initial impact, amazing stuff, skin/hair noticeably better, scars suddenly healing fast, and just really good energy wise in the body

thanks for the response

Do you eat hulled  hemp seed (hemp hearts)or whole hemp seed?  I find the shell irritating to the digestive system, I mostly blend the hulled hemp seed in smoothies.  Although it is great in salads and yogurt as well.

Sardines and Mackerel are some of the best for fish oils.  Great for RNA intake too!

The hulled seed, it tastes amazing, & initially goes down nice but half hour later it'll start erupting, same thing happened with hemp protein, i'll try em again in the future in small doses & build up... the idea of almost living off hemp seed appeals to me

As a toothpaste, really?  Is that a common thing?

Also, doesn't the oil make your hair greasy?

This thread is interesting to me, I never give a second thought to oil.  I usually cook with olive oil, and sesame when I'm doing Chinese food, but other than that I don't use any oils.  Maybe I should get some hemp seed oil.

Hemp seed oil, im in the UK & buy it from a small company that makes it by hand in small batches, its actually not sold for consumption but as a base oil for massages, when i asked they said they legally can't suggest eating it but that they do themselves & it should be fine

I'd suggest just finding an organic unrefined source off the net based within the US, im sure this stuff would do just fine:

http://www.amazon.com/Nutiva-Organic-Hemp-16-Ounce-Bottles/dp/B001E5E1LO

Make sure you don't heat it, store it in the fridge or freezer, and keep having a bit everyday, it might just be what my body needed but it's made a noticeable difference, i also read recently that good oils like this lubricate your brain

Awesome OWLS!!

I was on the raw food thing for a while to.  I felt something was missing and got back into the fats.

I actually have concerns that too much plant oils are really bad for health.

Humans need a lot more saturated fats than plants or fish do.  Plants and fish operate at lower temperatures, for the most part.  They have more polyunsaturated fats so their cell membranes stay fluid at lower temperatures.  We operate at higher temperatures, so we need more saturated fats so that our membranes don't become TOO fluid.  Notice how tropical oils have much more saturated fats (coconut/palm) because these plants live at a higher temperature and need more saturated fat to keep their cell membranes fluid, like we do.  That is why tropical oils are good but most other vegetable oils are quite bad.

Humans need a majority of fats in a saturated form.  Some people even abstain from eating all nuts and seeds and only get their fats from animals!

I don't quite know what to believe, I'll keep eating hemp and chia for now.  I like the taste and they have tons of other good nutrients.  I however, do not use any oils other than olive for salads.

Ghee, Butter, Coconut Oil, Lard, Bacon are my main fat sources.  Oh, and meat of course

Where do you guys find hemp, and some of the other exotic, oils?  I hit up a few health nut stores after reading this post and none of them carried the good stuff.

I don't eat much meat and when I do it's lean/white meat.  I've recently started eating half an avocado a day along with a few handfuls of mixed nuts (usually walnut/almond).  I use olive oil in just about every meal of my day.  I occasionally cook with sesame oil but don't enjoy the flavor.  Most of my daily fat intake comes from those sources.  I'm not big on the fish oils (they make me burp fish) and take a plant-based omega supplement daily.

USA are dicks about hemp, you cant legally grow hemp in the USA even though theres no THC in it, so they have to import the seeds or the oil, get it off the net if you can't find it in stores, probly cheaper too. You can buy it in the supermarket over here

well i'm thinking of trying more like 30% fat in my diet. even if i didn't do that i just can't afford any organic meat and dairy right now so i don't really eat much it at all. even if i could i think i would really just eat it moderately

have you ever germinated your own nuts and seeds before eating them? that is supposed to be very helpful with digestion and assimilation

also which of the oils listed here are higher in omega 3? will flax and chia give me the benefits do you think since it just contains ALA?
