At primarily teaching colleges (non-research based0 professors only start at 60ish.

But I guess the time off makes up for it.

depends on how long they've been teaching, while the starting salaries are
low there is a teachers union and pay for public school teachers also range
in the $70k/yr. several years ago the school board here put the salaries of
all the teachers online, it showed that most of the school principals, vice
principals and such were making $95k-$110k and the average teachers pay was
in the $60k range.


what you hear about what american teachers are paid is different than what's actual

average for all k-12 teacher across the nation in 2005 was $45k. it's a
respectable amount given that they are allowed to collect unemployment or
take seasonal jobs during the 3 mos that they're off work from teaching
while still drawing a paycheck. hat's $5000/mo for the 9 mos they work or
$30/hr in plain english

Is not such a bad average. What would be interesting is the pay scale.

If the average is 45k. Does this mean some are paid 15k a year others 75k? Or is it like 30k to 60k?

when our schools pay rates were online there were a few making $15k, most
were bus drivers who work about 4hrs per day others were known as parapros,
they're teachers assistants. this was several years ago of course, the
current rate now is around $20k due to union pay rate increases and could
actually be higher with cost of living allowances under the contracts. still,
$20k for a part time job is pretty damned good

most of the teachers with 10 years were in the $55k range, 15-20yrs were
pulling as high as $70k and a couple of 30yr teachers were earning $85k

I also know that my kid's bus driver runs a 1hr route in the morning, drives
her bus to a part time job unrelated to the schools and hen returns and runs
a 1 hour route before going home. I see the bus when I work out that way,
it's always parked at the same business through the week

she makes $15k for 10hrs per week. $37/hr for the time worked plus the perks
of using the bus for her primary transportation

When I was in high school in the late 90's, teachers in my district made $45k-$50k, and if they had a masters degree they made an additional $5k-$10k.  That's well under $75-$100k, but it was also 15 years ago...

Teachers have been on strike in BC for the last 6 months. No way they get paid 80-100K. Maybe principals and administrators but the average teacher make around 30$ an hour.
My mother in law is a teacher and so is my cousins wife

I promise you they do.  I have looked at the union agreement document.  I'm on my phone right now but I'll post it when I get home.

Talking high school not elementary.  They make substantially less.

Someone I know was an elementary school teacher in Ontario (not sure what he makes now as a principal) and I believe the top end was in the ballpark of $70k when he was teaching. The Ontario teachers' pension plan has pretty sizable assets I think.
