Interesting difference between PF & SM teks

The Simple Minds Tek seems to require more water than the standard PF. Breaking down the ingredients into a batch of six 1/2 pint jars, the PF calls for 4 cups verm, 1-1/2 cups water and 1-1/2 cups BRF, all mixed together at once.

SM calls for adding the water slowly to the verm until there is just a trickle of liquid at the bottom. This turned out to be closer to two cups of water, and the resulting near-slurry smelled incredibly fertile, rich and musky, especially once the BRF was folded in. It took a long time to mix, but I have high hopes for these cakes. I believe this is the first batch that has gone perfectly so far.

I'm not asking. Just sharing random observations for any who are interested in the minutae of cultivation and who might have observations about water, and vaguely hoping that someone will say, "Hell yeah! I did that and the shrooms broke through the FUCKING JARS, man!"

the difference is only a few CC but I noticed a lot of condensation ont he bottom of my jars (They are flipped over so its actualy not touching the cakes) maybe that few CCs matters...

NEWB'S-READ THIS!  the foaf sure wishes that he had known about the water content before he started experimenting on his own, but of course, learned invaluable info on the growth of mycelium.  and to asnwer your question, ktom-yes the foaf has done water content tests.  all pf jars that have been either pressure cooked or steam sterilized, that had 2 parts verm and 1 part water resulted in bacteria infection-thanks to anno's help identifying the problem.  they all colonize slowly, and generally look funny-hehe.  by the way, they STINK!!  also,  the simple minds tek was "improved" under the assumption that the more water the better, and from 0-3 tablespoons extra of water per half pint jar was added, and resulted in barely 25% colonization of the 3 Tb, and only the 0 and 1 tb added jars colonized under a month-one was used half colonized, just scraped off.  also, at the same time, tests using distilled water and well/very hard/spring water was used.  for the 0 tb jars, the well water jar was a week ahead of the distilled 0 tb jar.  therefore-not more water is better, because the PF TEK is perfect as is.  and also, for all you people wondering about what type of water to use, distilled is the farthest from what you should use for fast growth.  distilled is last, then city tap water, then a friends well water, then ive heard the water left from boiling rice (brown), then i would highly recommend the water left after pasteurizing poo in water-but of course once u have used dung, you have less of a concern for pf jars now- :grin:-but everyone needs spawn.  then stamets recommends 'the best' water possible is water leeching from your compost, or something to that effect-good luck to all-hope this helps.

I have the feeling you never read the pf tek.
Let?s quote again what it sais here:

"The water is the crucial element that variates the results. The different brands of vermiculite varies creating differing moisture levels. So as already stated in the PF TEK, one should always vary the water amount, take notes and compare results. The "MAX" water content can really make a great fruiting and give several flushes when the balance between the substrate elements is good."

alright, thanks for correcting me, and that was the mindset-more the better, and the foaf surpassed the better line into too much, and of course it varies for every type of verm im sure.
