Hrmm... I should restate. Other people had talked about how easily the PF strain pinned in vitro, and thought it might be a mutation. Because other strains pin in the jar, but not as easily.

Pinning outside of the jar is the more standard approach really. Stamets for instance never references pinning in the jar, etc. I think it all came from PF. (Although there are the bag techniques where you cut wholes in the bags, and the mushrooms come out of there)

Experience shows this, although some may disagree. ALL cubensis spore races will pin in-vitro, it's just a matter of time. Some of them don't perform as well as others. It seems that each generation becomes somewhat more adapted to the technique and improves.

And to answer the original question. If it doesn't pin in-vitro, simply birth it, put it in the terrarium and it will pin. Or case it. Removing it from the jar lowers the temperature enough to trigger pinning. A poor man's "cold shocking".

i've done it both ways and never seen any difference (pf strain).
