hi there, im a beginner so i may not have any idea what im talking about, but no one else is answering your post so..... i thought that it may be caused by too dry of a substrate mix.(?)how much water did you add. well wish i could be more of a help. at the very least i can offer some good news. i have some cakes going now that have some nice fruit bodies on them, the pf tech does work nicely! dont give up, try again!!! good luck BACH

The only thing I can tink of is that either your substrate is too dry, or the jars have been banged around a lot. (Since you said that you had to move them)I've never had that happen before, but I have accidentally broken a cake before when birthing. Didn't seem to hurt it much. I just stuck the two pieces back together and it grew fine. If you think they're dry when you birth them, then case them.

i would agree. too dry. you might try injecting small amounts of sterile water into the cake, just a couple cc's at a time, spred out between the holes. do that a few days in a row. ------------------ Visit http://www.drooldonkey.org Global Psychedelic Community, Forums & Chat, Teks & Tips.

thanks peoples... hippie, how would i go about making water sterile...should we get that stuff that the doctors use? and the syringes the spores came in...should we consider those sterile still? nothing touched the needle exceot for the sterile substrate and the needle cover. -ADK ------------------ The smallest fact is a window through which the infinite may be seen. -AH

i would say NO. that isnt sterile enough, but it might be cause the mycelium is already established. you should at least flame (alcohol) sterilize the needle and you may need to boil the water depending where it came from. you should use spring water according to most people here. you may want to boil it for 5 minutes or so before you inject it.

just fill a syringe with water, wrap it in foil to protect it from direct heat, then boil it 45 min. allow to cool then use. be sure to flame needle between injections so you don't spred bacteria, etc.------------------ Visit http://www.drooldonkey.org Global Psychedelic Community, Forums & Chat, Teks & Tips.

I've just read your post. This has happened to me a couple of times in the past and I couldn't get much feedback either. Why is this only happening to us? The good news is that the cracks filled up with mycelium (took a little longer) and held together when I birthed the cake and the shrooms grew fine. I don't think it's a dryness problem as this only happened on a couple of cakes, right? Same with me. Anyway, I'd just leave them and see what happens - it's only a couple of jars. Hope that helps.

Yes, it's only in a few cakes. It's good to hear that the mycelium grew into the cracks for you, and we're hoping it will do the same for us. Thanks everybody. -ADK
