Buying morels

I've been scouring places to buy morels, but there are none around here and no mushrooms grow where I live.

eBay has some. What is a reasonable price for 1 lb. of fresh morels and 1 oz. of dried morels? eBay has them listed for around $20 for the lb. of fresh and $5 for the 1oz. dried or $9 for 2 oz. dried + a few bux S&H.

Although I've never eaten dried morels, is there really a difference? I don't plan on growing these yet, just eating them.

Many supermarkets sell dryed morels.Have you tryed there?
There oftern in jars in the herb section

my farmers market was chargine 25 a pound.

a quarter pound looks like enough for a nice
accompaniment for a 2 person meal.

I can't really get into the dried ones. They lack any flavor. Maybe it's just me - I also want to try fresh morels - i have never. And the dried ones didn't do it for me. Neither did dried chanterelles.

Madison WI farmers market had em for 2 bucks an ounce for fresh ones this past weekend. Cant wait to cook em up!!!

My dad just brought 20lbs of these suckers!, I've been eating them with everything! I love them, they are everywhere around here if my ankle wasn't so screwed up I would be out hunting them.

Around here, my friends have been getting $20 per pound of fresh morels, at the local farmers market, generally speaking.  Here in eastern Nebraska they are still around, but as the season grows late, they are becoming harder and harder to find.  Another week or two and there won't be anymore around here to pick :frown:.  Here is a link to a post I made a few weeks ago that shows off a nice haul that I made this season...

Whole Foods has them. That's if you have these stores where you live.

When using dried mushrooms use a flovorfull rehydrating liquid such as chicken stock. Chicken stock has the ability to bring out the natural flavors in things. Also a good liquid for morels is a good sherry wine.
