Ah, hah! The infamous albino. If that ain't albino, i'll drop trowel and will do cart wheals across the 50 yard line of the Raven's game comming up. Bet on it.

I was telling Workman about these colors of Morel's and no wonder I haven't heard from him lately. I think he thought I was nuts.

I actually thought I was being made a fool of myself.

Hotnuts, I'm not snubbing you. Just real busy lately. I'm sure I'll be more active after the holidays. And I haven't really been doing much in the morel arena lately, although I was sent a variety of samples including a "pickle".

hey inski,
the white or buff colored might be morchella rufobrunnea, a fairly common species in california. it seems to fruit during warmer weather, and in more neutral soils. as for the purple morels, where were those found? those might be morchella atrotomentosa depending on the habitat.

I've found purple morels in the Cascades and in eastern Oregon around John Day.

if you found the purple morel in the oregon cascades, it could be very possible that those are morchella atrotomentosa. especially if found in recent burn areas, this species of morel is not so commonly found. i heard that after mount saint Helen's blow the first time, there was a huge flush of morchella atrotomentosa. maybe this species needs a extremely hot burn to form.

Hi asci,
I just viewed some nice images of Morchella rufobrunnea, the pits are quite dark with white edges when young!
I was able to get a few images of the small specimens today, they seem to be smaller than when I first found them, probably due to the dry weather.

I think it's possible that these are M rufobrunnea, I'll wait to see if they mature properly and try to get some spore prints and also do some microscopy.
inski

cool, try to get some microscopic pics! the ruobrunnea do have very light edges with dark pits, similar to the midwestern white morel. whats the fruiting temp?

I havn't harvested any of the specimens yet as they are still quite small and it's been too dry up until today, we get steady rain every year at this time so i'm hopefull that they may get a bit bigger!
The average daytime temps have been around 62-63f
I will definately get some micrographs!
inski.
