sterilizing jiffy mix

Hey shroomery friends, newbie here doing casing for the first time, is jify mix recomended for a newbie, and how can i sterilize it without a pressure cooker(ill eventuly buy one). oh and when i case should i leave it out of the terranium for recovery or put it in when its cased. keep in mind im a newbie, and over humidified my very first casing doing perlite, and fishtank bublers. but since then i got a timer, ultrasonic and 2 digital hydrometers since then. thanks for reading and more thanks for responses. be safe, watch what u do and who u talk to

put it in jars boil it for 30 min 1 hour

>sit it in an incubator at 30c
wait 1 day
boil again 1 hour

To sterilize jiffy mix just nuke it in a microwave for 6-10 minutes depending on the amount of jiffy mix. You must first add water to the jiffy mix enough so that the mix is not runny then into the nmicrowave it goes. When you apply the casing layer allow the myc to show through the jiffy mix then its ready to fruit.

Jiffy-mix should not be sterilized in a PC even if you have one. PC's are for grain, jars, agar, and other items used at the start of the growing process. Casing mixtures, like jiffy-mix, should be Pasteurized...but not sterilized so the microwave tek is all you need. Jiffy-mix should be moist but not so wet that you can squeeze the water out.

Why do you say this? I've PCed 50/50 peat/verm casing and had fine results.
