Well first off all, if you are combining jiffy mix and verm for one casing material you are wasting verm, for jiffy mix already has it. Sterilizing jiffy mix is pretty important. If not, you will have a much greater chance at catching the green. Perlite does not need to be sterilized, but many people add some h2o2 to it. Good Luck.

You can if you want to be safe, Its not completely required, but it won't hurt any, just help. I don't know how long you would nuke it, I don't use the microwave for sterilization.
