I'm just now getting into this forum because the opportunity to become a commercial farmer has arised for me. Curenado, what state are you operating in? I'm going to be working in western NC. I think I am going to start with shiitakes and diversify from there. I am taking a crash course on this. GGMM, mushworld, and here will be my only sources of information until i can establish communication with the local university.

We are in Arkansas and have some spot sales in MO. I think you have some good sources. The Mushroom Cultivator is most of your basic tech and params for several species, shittake, paddy straw, no ports in there tough...

Asian farmer models are typically really good - there is a mycology group at yahoo which is entirely commercial-university-conference oriented and cutting edge. We are tiny little peanuts in a birdhouse! Check out this group and for you medicinal growers the Yahoo group Phytomedica.

If you have not seen or heard of this book, or have and have not checked it out yet, try to get your hands on: Mushroom Cultivation with Special Emphasis on appropriate techniques for developing countries. It has a wealth of information for early stage growers.

Sawdust/chip spawns - one of our strong legs is friendly sawmill at bottom of the mountain.....
