to celebrate i'm going to buy fat set of speakers and a controller, i dont really know much about this stuff... this is the one im lookin at.

im also planning on torrenting the software ableton live, has anyone had success doing this?

all i wanna do is be able to fade bassnectar into excision and shit like that, oh ya and blast laser sounds n shit like that.

my gf/ex-gf (just broke up with her) is good friends with the owners of summercamp music festival (she blazes volcano with him all the time) im going to EASILY be able to play a tent their next summer. kinda random but sick as fuck.

yeah, i have a couple of friends who use the apc40 with ableton and they love it. i have an evo uc 33 myself that i need to get around to programming.

while speakers are definitely important, i would put money into a good soundcard over speakers. my advice would be to do some research on the ableton and abletonlivedj forums prior to making your purchase. also, if you're on pc i would steer clear of anything firewire (which sucks b/c the motu ultralite is one of the best cards out there). i use a novation nio 2/4 and it's great. my speakers are a pair of event alp 5's.

oh, and one last bit of advice, i would get one of the "power!" series books for whatever version of ableton you intend on using.

If you want to mix, buy some tables and a mixer!  If you want to produce, grab a midi controller and software and start fucking around!  Tons of great tutorials online!

well if you wanted to you could get atleast a really decent soundcard and badass headphones. then you can hear what you're playing as loud as you like with excellent sound quality for a cheaper price than buying a badass set of speakers, but it's definitely worth it to get badass speakers eventually.

I concur.

I was at my buddy's place this weekend and he has some Adam A7 reference monitors that are BOMB.  Sounded incredible, so much definition, it was amazing.  Also they're active, and use XLR inputs.  Reaaaaally nice set of speakers - you can find a used set for ~$7-800.
