I'm not sure if I understand what you're saying. MIDI can't be converted directly into wav or mp3 because it's simply a control signal, not audio. It exists to be the signal, going from a trigger device such as a keyboard or drum pad, to an instrument, such as a hardware synthesizer or softsynth on a computer. It carries note information like C# and stuff like velocity (how hard a key is hit) and pitch bend.
I've heard MIDI directly as audio once, my tech class teacher hacked a MIDI cable to have an audio out on the other end for demonstration. It came out sounding as a nasty pop, because it's just data.
hope this helps

mm, like -

midi out to midi in

...midi out being the keyboard, midi in being the soundcard. just basically recording the song straight from the keyboard into a midi file on the computer, which will play as the song did on the keyboard. then that could be converted into .wav?

i just need a program that records the midi in, and can then convert the "data" into .wav or a normal mp3 file.

i'm sorry, i'm having trouble getting across what i'm looking for

I think you need to record the midi data onto your computer first, you will need a program for this, i can't think of any cheap ones but I'm sure there is some.
What you do is connect the midi IN to your soundcard and connect it to a program to controll something called a softsynth.
You can record whatever it is you want to record and it'll record the midi data and the soft synth will let you hear what you are playing,in the program you can then convert the midi data to audio.

sorry i can't think of any free programs to do this , i use cakewalk sonar. Though there is plenty of free soft synths that you can get.

Your going to need a sequencer program to record your midi then export as .wav or .mp3 file. I recommend Ableton Live but it's not cheap. Do a search on google for shareware sequencers (if they exist).

i just tried one out, i got it recording and everything, but it doesn't record pre-recorded songs i made from the keyboard. i have to be playing live for it to record. like i had a 3-track song already written, it doesn't read it.

ugh whatever, back to the mic
