Breakout EMU Soundcards for my studio setup...

I swear by these soundcards by EMU, they sound great and have a lot of versatility. 

The first one is the EMU-0404 USB Soundcard for my laptop.  It has 2 Mic/Line Inputs, with +48v phantom power, and 2 line outs, also a pair of either SPDIF or optical outputs.  I'm going to interface my laptop to my big computer via the optical outputs. 




The breakout for my big computer is an EMU-1616m.  It has 6 Line outs, four lines in (balanced), 2 really good mic inputs with +48v phantom power, a stero pair of spdif, and 4 channels of optical in/out. for a total of 16 I/O's.  In addition, it has an RCA phono input for turntables.  It interfaces to an internal DSP card which is the controller and effects, via a cat-5 cable.

This is the Software mixer, you can assign channels, add effects, send returns, etc, monitor levels.  it's got a steep learning curve but it is really versatile.

Those look nice, I wouldn't need all the inputs tho.  I got a creative one with an internal breakout box, has midi and stuff but I even use midi to usb cables and only 2 3.5 jacks on my sound card/headphone amp thing.

I think my front L/R input recently fucked up tho, it doens't sound full and theres a little distortion :confused:

Well what would be the best thing for a dj?  It seems like any good dj would have a better sound card if they are playing music with their laptop or whatever.  On the other hand sound cards are more prone to fucking up, and onboard sound is good :/

I like the 1616m because of the phono inputs, thats what a DJ would need I guess.  But, you can get a 0404 online for about $150 they sound really good and are just USB into the laptop.
