I've already been working out for months. My problem is that I do it for a couple weeks then stop for some reason or other, and then a couple weeks on, a couple off.. This thread has inspired me to stay with it. I'm not doing it to bulk up which is probably impossible because of my frame, but being healthier and having more muscle tone would be nice. You have more energy throughout the day when you exercise too. I have definately noticed that when I stop working out I have less energy. One other great thing about working out is that you burn fat even after your workout is over because muscles use more energy and thus, calories. Keep at it, everybody!

I must add that exercise does give you energy.. but you have to remember to eat food. Lots of food.. nutritious food, like a balanced diet. Food is very important. and if you just exercised all the time, and never ate food, you would die. yes die.

Working out is one of the few things I've stayed pretty consistent with over the past couple of years. Lately I've been doing a lot of research into proper workout programs and diet.
There are a few things I wanted to comment on from this thread.

You will never bulk up from just doing pushups, situps and pullups. You need some form of resistance training, and you need to train heavy (6-8 reps per set). And for most people, bulking up IS hard.

daba said: Here is my exercise routine which I do every other day, or every 2 days, depending on my schedule:
Using dumbbells: 30 (10x3 reps) curls @ 32.5 lbs per arm. 30 (10x3 reps) above the head pushes @ 32.5 lbs per arm. 30 (10x3 reps) pulling up the weight in front of you lifts @ 22.5 lbs per arm.
Abs 150 (50x3) crunches, never letting the shoulder blades touch the ground.
Push-ups 60 (20x3) regular push-ups. 45 (15x3) Tri-cep push-ups.
Legs and ass Three 60 second "horseshoe" position meditation squat-holds.
This program is a good start, but it doesn't have a lot of variety. Although I don't know what your goals are, I'd recommend a split program (working a different muscle group each workout, 3 or 4 times a week).

It's never impossible for someone to bulk up because of their frame size (except in a select few cases). Ectomorphs (people with small frames) just have to pay close attention to their diet. You need to eat a lot of food, over 2000 calories a day. Try to get at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, 2g of carbs/lb, and about 0.4g of fat/lb. Here's a good article for beginners : http://www.teenbodybuilding.com/derek28.htm.
If your serious about getting into shape, you should really consider setting up a program and figuring out a diet. Once you've got everything planned out and organized it's a lot easier to stay consistent. It's really not as hard as you think and it's worth it. If anyone wants any help, feel free to PM me or post here and I can point you in the right direction.

I took a little break from working out, I'm going to go at it again when I move into the new place and settle down.
