kramer put some renalds oven bags full of bulk subsrate in the oven to be pasteurized and he is wondering after/when he spawns them should he put some tyvek somewhere for gas exchange? he thinks he should but he is blowed and dosn't really know
any and all replies are apreciated  :confused:

I dont know much about oven bags (or renalds oven bags for that matter) but I would have thought you would need some gas exchange somwhere.
when I colonise my dung/straw I have it in a tray (2'x6" six inches deep) & just put tin foil over the top with a few holes poked in al la roadkill's tek that has worked wonders for me - 20 pints colonised in 5 days no contams so far

ya thats how kramer usualy does it
but he had the oven bags and wanted to try sumpn' new
just wondering what every body thought about it

If you figure it out, let me know...

I'm just finishing up sterilizing a reynolds bag full of WBS.  My last one was full of contams.

What I did (and will do again), is dump the sterilized substrate into a ziplock bag, throw in a cake, crush it all up together, and throw it in my closet :smile:

it is probably a little late for that but a few questions....

are you using grain...if so...it should be sterilized, not pastureized. Grains harbor far to many thing to have pastuerization work effectively

if you are using poo try a Tyvek patch....in a clean environment, Kramer knows the one, make up a patch and apply tape to the glossy side of the tyvek, something like packing tape works well.

in your box or under your heppa use isopropyl alcohol to sterilize an area about 1 inch larger than your patch will be. use a second piece as a template for that and the cutting proscess. use tha alcoho to sterilize the patch in the dull (not glossy) side of the patch...Cut a small square out a little smaller than the patch and apply.

think it through before you let kramer try it, you want as little 'open time' as is possible in order to reduce possibility of contamination....if you try and do it without the patch, the grain will ferment....

another method that Huck had tried was to poke dozens of small holes in a 2x2 in area and applied the patch over that. again alcohol and sterility were the key to success....the first being more so than the last.

dude over bags suck i got contamns in all 4 bags i tryed i was mad to i followed the over bag tek in the shroomery by someone who had no idea what he was saying cuz it didnt work

I agree....thats why I say use a mycobag.....they dont suck....and no...I'm not affiliated with them but I have seen the results of the usage of their products and they are good....

ok like i said kramer was blowed out when i made this post so after a nice 12 hour run at 165f kramer had jerry's apt smelling like shit bad yesterday and he just said "hey i'm gonna see what these koh samui are all about" so he took 1 and 1/2 pints of colonized wbs and spawned about 25-30lbs of bulk(composted cow dung and wheat straw).when we were over at jerry's kramer bet me it would colonize in less than 30 days. as i don't know much about such things myself i couldn't help but make the bet because when i put on a pair of pants i haven't worn in a year or more, i found a $10 bill in the pocket. so hey it was mine but it is still kinda like found money so the bet is on.
and btw turkey roaster pans with aluminum foil over the top sealed real good hardly smell at all but those oven bags naaaaasty they don't hold up very well
so any how what do you guys think? the spawn and bulk were mixed evenly and the ks already took off.so am i out 10 bucks or is kramer finaly buying lunch?

also to note the spawned bulk is in a 22gal tub now and NOT the oven bag

hell yeah in just 2 weeks in good conditions i know this one for sure! your out 10 bucks! but u know what the cool thing is? reading ur shit and putting the people with the situation( jerry, kramer ect: making shrooms and shit lol) now that funny. rereading this post i forgot to ask what the depth was? 8 in thick in three weeks with amazion strain is the average. so unless the depth is a foot then u lose

about 6"deep kramer says but it's some dense stuff kramer cut up all the straw into little pieces 1 inch and less so it might take a little longer



authers note: i don't even grow shrooms really, i just like giving the visuals :tongue:
