This years outdoor spring dunk. (shiitakes)
    #14262458 -

I dunked a bunch of block for about 18 hours each.

The blocks are sterilized and supplemented with bran and gypsum.

The big block at the top was colonized from pasteurized woodchips without supplements.

These were all dried out and left outside throughout the winter.

I cut off a lot of the fruits from the big block, it must have started fruiting during last fall, =-/.

I used the dunk water (had some h202 and soap in it) and the sticks that fell off the blocks into another tub I have of pastuerized wood chips.

My greenhouse collapsed in the winter, (should have dismatled it).

So now I'm just using a tarp and tying it down.

How many flushes do you expect you'll be able to get out of your shiitake blocks?

I'm not sure. A couple are on the 3rd flush. I can tell which ones by the decomposition. I can't say for sure how long before they succumb to contams. Then they can turn into fuel for fire

Sweet! Have you noticed the amount of shiitake mushrooms you get from each successive flush decrease or does it hold relatively constant?

Nothing like using the output of one system as the input of another e.g., spent shiitake blocks for fuel for heating.
