Hi ShrOOmSynEgry,
Numbers for these species from GGMM,
For oyster 50-60F and RH of 95% for the first couple of days for pin formation and then 60-70F and RH of 90%.
For Shittake there are different strains that fruit at different tempatures. 50-70F and 95% RH for primordia formation and 60-80F and 60-80 RH for fruit body developement.
For the Maitake, Primordia, in Maitake this is a ball that looks sort of like a brain, 50-60F and 95% RH, Frond developement 50-60F and 90-95% RH. Fruit body developement 55-60F and 75-85 RH.
These are like the ideal numbers. The oyster should fruit with no problem at 68-74. I think you have a good chance of fruiting the Shiitake. I don't think the Maitake will fruit, though I'm not sure.
If they were grown on supplemented sawdust you shouldn't have to dunk the oyster or the shiitake for the first flush.
have fun, falcon

I think you will do well with the Oysters and Shiitakes, although not so sure about the Maitake. I think you will need some cooler temps to have any luck with those. If you do figure out a way to fruit them cooler, I'll send you an Enoki Culture as they seem to do well fruiting side by side(maybye it's nothing, but I think they like the company!).
Anyway, a dunk is not necessary for the oysters but it's a good idea for the shiitake. Maybye a 48 cold dunk in spring water?

exellent advice guys. i'm looking into making a small 10 gallon outdoor aquarium. i have an outdoor area, and it stays cool here in the summer too. maybe that will work... i'll try the 48hr dunk with the shiitakes. they should be done soon. those shiitakes seem to love my 50/50 straw/oak pint jars that i made. they are growing mycelium twice as fast as they have in the past. thanx again for all your help mycoshack dudes!!!
all and any more input is very helpfull and appreciated. thanx!!

ok. so my blue oysters just birthed, and are growing a billion/trillion shrooms, but they look long and skinny. do they fill out??? they are up to 2 1/2" long, but only like an around 1/8" wide. what should i do to get fatter babies???

ShrOOmSynEgry, skinny oysters are more often than not, caused by high CO2. If you increase the airflow you should get fatter mushrooms.

ok. i have an airstone running in there, but do you think that fanning every day would help without increasing risk of contamination factor too much???

I think it would help and the contamination factor for oyster mushrooms is really low once they have started fruiting.

Oysters need lots of fresh air. Is the aquarium closed up? Try opening it up to give those oysters the air they want.

contamination isn't really too much of a problem at this stage. I'd say you want to fan at least 5-10 times a day with oysters, they love that fresh air. Any chance of a pic of the setup? I have a lot of luck fruiting oyster in an open, deep tub with 3" of perlite on the bottom. '

i'll try opening it up. as for pictures, i should have some soon, but i need to get my home computer fixed so i can upload them. maybe i can hook em' up here at work incognito style. i'll let you know when i get em up in my growlog. Its basically a 10gallon aquarium with a medium air pump distributing air to an airstone (6") buried in 4" of perlite with 3" of water/h2o2 solution. i use flourescent light for 8 hrs a day about 3 1/2 feet away.
I'll give it a shot opening up the lid, but i'm not home enough to fan 5-10 times a day. maybe 3 or 4.
i opened it up last night for a breif fanning, and this morning i definatly saw an increase in size and girth. thanx guys for the advice.
One more question. is any light necissary in mycelial growth stage??? if so, then how many hrs? thanx in advance....
