Best substrate for Oyster and shiitake

Im looking at growing shiitake with hardwood sawdust. I was just wondering whether it really matters which type of hardwood you use and whether you have to add anything else.
Im also getting some oyster spores and was planning to use straw as substrate. Again, do I have to add anything tp the pasturised straw?

Or do you mean GGMM? Or possibly the newly released MGGM?
Stan, there are a ton of recipes online. Either GGMM or TMC is a great investment, but if that's out of reach just use GOOGLE. "shiitake oyster cultivation" will give you lots to peruse.
Oysters will grow off books if they're properly inoculated, not real finicky.

Oysters - you don't have to add anything to the straw. Shiitake - add bran as a supplement to hardwood sawdust.

Oysters - grow these out on rye and then spawn a bag of moist straw (btw where you get that straw??) Shiitake - use oak chips soaked mixed 80% with a 20% grain mix. when colonised submerge in water then keep in a cool spot - unless your growing the warm weather variety.

(btw where you get that straw??)
It might be difficult to get it in urban areas but if you drive around countryside you will se hundreds of bales or cubes of straw.
