Anno Have you seen the hanging bag o stra tek?? It uses one of those tent/cupboards you reasently bought. You spawn bag of straw and hang them up during fruiting with slits cut in the plastic. Works really well.

I've been growing pleurotus for many yrs now.Straw while a great production tek is a pain.I've been inoculating alder rounds in the spring with wood dowel spawn and get a nice harvest in fall/winter.I've been using a wild strain I collected which is a pinkish grey and very meaty and flavorful. As common as they are in the woods around here I usually have way more than I need WR

How would it work using newsprint instead of straw?

I'm sure it would work ok(ish) im going to try a mix of both and just straight straw myself. But card board and news paper may be a better way to go as itll hold a better more open structure.

I think if cardboard/paper was a better substrate, then more commercial cultivators would use it, despite organic status.

Welcome to the shroomery. Don't resurrect old threads. A mod is likely to come close this. Open/post a new thread called "Cropping buttons with oyster in same GH" or something like that, at least then you'll get the right people viewing it. Good luck, keep at it!

My trade list
Looking for strong terrestrial fruiters for an outdoor beds experiment:
Agaricus Bitorquis, Agaricus Augustus, Agaricus blazei/subrufescens, Stropharia Rugoso-annulata, Clitocybe Nuda (blewits), and any species or other genus that you think work outdoors.
Also, any commercially viable Pleurotus, cold or hot strains.
Thanks for the Q&A, trades, and all the posters & teachers that have come before us
