Read any good books lately?

Yes so I have been bored with my fiction books. I went to the bookstore to search for some deep, interesting books that could change my outlook on life completely and unfortunately - it was incredibly hard. I realized you have to actually go into a bookstore with an author in mind or something close to that - otherwise you'll be lost all day and end up coming out with a DVD and 2 CDs (like I did last week). Anyway - what book have you read recently that opened you up to new things - give the author, title and what the general idea of the book is.

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. This was a extremely interesting book that my mind thinking tons of shit. It was fiction but its quite interesting.

(dr sagan has been accused of scientism, but i find in his writings enough of a sense of wonder, and open-mindedness, that i might classify him more as a deep agnostic, with strong antipathy toward those who are certain that they have found "the answer", as opposed to those who have found a few good questions :wink:

I just finished Brave New World by Aldous Huxley... I must say, it was a great read. Really changed the way I view society.

it is fiction and has a lot to do about appearances vs. reality. it's one of my all time favorites!

grendel, by john gardner is a great book i read not too long ago. you probably had to read beowulf in high school or maybe saw the movie that came out not long ago (i didn't see it, so i don't know if it is true to the book or not). grendel was the monster in the book beowulf. grendel, the book, is an intertwining story from the monster's point of view. the book might not change your life, but it will at least make you think more about those people in life who are made out to be evil, vicious enemies by the media, others..etc, but in reality are not as they are portrayed. if you haven't read beowulf, i would suggest reading it first, so that you know more of the background of the story. i don't think i would have enjoyed grendel as much if i had not read beowulf.

im reading Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime and punishment. its pretty good, the guy could be more messed up, but hes a good character from my standpoint. in the character sense, you know beside from being a killer and all, if only he didnt go the short way home!

a brief history in time- Stephen Hawking/ cant stand his writing style but extremely informotive for those of us who are not graduates of physics.

Investagating the unexplained-Paul Roland/ sweet book for anyone interested in a fairly objective approach to such things

mmm..You can read most religious documents online if you like too..but theres something preferable about buying a book
